The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and its three exterior artworks

in Worldmappin9 months ago

Hi,

A must when you are in the city of Bilbao is to visit the Guggenheim Museum, because even if you do not have a ticket for any of its exhibitions, contemplating the museum from the viewpoint of the Salve Bridge at sunset is already a good menu for the senses to see how the titanium sheets change color over the minutes.

At the same time, walking around the museum gives us the opportunity to see 3 very unique and special sculptures.

Puppy

Puppy is a floral sculpture of 16 tons and more than 12 meters high formed by a complex irrigation system that feeds about 38,000 plants and flowers.

It is a work of sculptor Jeff Koons that was installed in 1997 at the entrance of the Gughenhein Museum and undoubtedly impacts visitors with its great color.

It is worth mentioning that twice a year the sculpture is maintained by replacing its plants and flowers thanks to the help of several associations and the collaboration of several micro-patronages.

Tall Tree & The Eye

It is a stainless steel sculpture by Anish Kapoor, located in the pond at the Guggenheim Museum.

For those of us who like to photograph reflections on different surfaces, it is a magnificent place.

The sculpture is composed of seventy-three polished steel spheres on three axes. In this way, each sphere is positioned to play with the reflections of the architecture, the viewer and the other spheres. By changing the position of the observer, the city and the museum reflected in the spheres change shape, with which the author wants to evoke the ephemerality of our vision, as everything changes by changing the perspective.

Maman

For those of us who do not prepare the visits as we should, we might think that it is a sculpture in honor of the war of the worlds, where some machines had a kind of sack at the bottom to kidnap their victims.

But in reality what this sculpture by Louise Bourgeois represents is a spider in honor of her mother.

Protector with descended as can be seen in the eggs that protects under her belly and in turn worker weaving endlessly, but also being able to be trapped by her own web and her affections.

Undoubtedly, being in Bilbao is a must to walk around the museum, contemplate the external works of art and enjoy a sunset near the Nervion River.

Best regards.

Wonderful images in this post, my dear friend. I love that multicoloured dog. The definition and depth are harmonious. Congratulations.

Thank you my friend for your praise

all the works of art there look very beautiful, especially the ball statues, they look very iconic and aesthetic

The artwork of the balls is very complete.
They look like disordered balls but they are thought to give different reflections to make us see how with different perspectives our environment changes.
