I'm a lover of nature, landscapes, volcanoes, rivers, lakes, deserts, dunes, and forests, but today I want to talk to you about a very different place. While I enjoy natural places much more than urban panoramas, it's true that the city has magical corners worth visiting, exploring, and, above all, spreading the word. And since Santiago is a major capital of South America, it naturally has a large number of such places.
Amante de la naturaleza, los paisajes, volcanes, ríos, lagos, desiertos, dunas y bosques, hoy les quiero hablar de un lugar bastante diferente. Si bien disfruto muchísimo más los lugares naturales que los panoramas urbanos, es cierto que la ciudad tiene rincones mágicos que vale la pena visitar, conocer, recorrer y sobre todo difundir. Y siendo Santiago una gran capital de América del sur por supuesto que tiene un gran número de lugares así.
Surely this has happened to you many times: you are walking down the street and you feel like having a coffee, a hot chocolate or maybe something more elaborate and you don't know where to go. You see thousands of options on one street or another, or it can also happen that you walk in front of places that go unnoticed because you don't know them or because they don't attract much attention. Therefore, this time I want to leave you a recommendation for when you are in Santiago. Lastarria is a very bohemian neighborhood, with many places to sit and have a drink and with spaces dedicated to art: paintings, crafts, bookstores, ice cream parlors, cultural centers and so on. And there, in the heart of the neighborhood, there's a coffee shop and restaurant that is straight out of a fantasy world. Surely you have seen a coffee shop inspired by Harry Potter or manga or comic book characters that have allusive photographs or some colors, but in my opinion - or rather, in my experience - these are not very detailed places, beyond the names of dishes or posters on the walls. Now, imagine that a place to eat was inspired by Harry Potter and that the walls were bricks, as if it were a castle, that there were chandeliers on the walls, portraits with holograms to simulate movements ... that is, things more of a theme park than a cafeteria. It would be wonderful. Well, Wonderland Café is exactly that, only instead of being inspired by the pages of J.K. Rowling, it's right out of the pages of one of the all-time classics: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.
Seguramente muchas veces les ha ocurrido esto: van caminando por la calle y tienen ganas de tomarse un café, un chocolate caliente o quizás algo más elaborado y no saben en dónde entrar. Ven miles de opciones en una calle o en otra, o también les puede pasar que caminan frente a lugares que pasan desapercibidos porque no los conocen o porque no llaman mucho la atención. Por eso, en esta oportunidad les quiero dejar una recomendación para cuando se encuentren en Santiago. Lastarria es un barrio muy bohemio, con muchos lugares para sentarse a tomar algo y con espacios dedicados al arte: pinturas, artesanías, librerías, heladerías, centros culturales y demás. Y allí, en el corazón del barrio existe una cafetería y restaurante que está sacada de un mundo de fantasía. Seguramente han visto alguna vez una cafetería inspirada en Harry Potter o en personajes de mangas o de cómics que tienen fotografías alusivas o algunos colores, pero en mi opinión - o más bien, en mi experiencia - no se trata de lugares muy detallados, más allá de nombres de platos o de afiches en las paredes. Ahora bien, imaginen que un lugar para comer estuviera inspirado en Harry Potter y que las paredes fueran ladrillos, como si fuera un castillo, que hubiera candelabros en las paredes, retratos con hologramas para simular movimientos... es decir, cosas más de un parque temático que de una cafetería. Sería maravilloso. Bien, Wonderland Café es exactamente eso, sólo que en vez de haberse inspirado en las páginas de J.K. Rowling, está salido de las páginas de uno de los clásicos de todos los tiempos: Alicia en el país de las maravillas de Lewis Carroll.

What amazes me about this place every time I go there is the quantity and quality of the details. To begin with, in its three levels the restaurant has more than a dozen corners, each one decorated based on something from the book, usually on the characters, but also on certain scenes. This is how each visit can be a different experience, but guaranteeing the quality of the moment and especially the food.
Lo que me maravilla de este lugar cada vez que voy es la cantidad y la calidad de los detalles. Para empezar, en sus tres niveles el restaurant tiene más de una docena de rincones, cada uno decorado basándose en algo del libro, normalmente en los personajes, pero también en ciertas escenas. Es así como cada visita puede ser una experiencia distinta, pero garantizando la calidad del momento y sobre todo de la comida.

Rooms like The Queen, The Cat's Room, The White Rabbit Hole, The Reading Room, The Tea Party Room, Mad Hatter's Room, The Twins' Nook, The Music Room, The Mustard Room, each one of them has a different color palette, details allusive to the theme, special lighting... from the pictures you can appreciate a little bit, but you really have to be there to understand what I'm saying. It literally feels like being inside Lewis Carroll's book and also sometimes they organize visits from a cosplayer who dresses up as the Mad Hatter and if you can match that... it's another level, really.
Salones como The Queen, The Cat's Room, The White Rabbit Hole, The Reading Room, The Tea Party Room, Mad Hatter's Room, The Twins' Nook, The Music Room, The Mustard Room, cada uno de ellos tiene una paleta de colores diferente, detalles alusivos al tema, iluminaciones especiales... por las fotos se puede apreciar un poco, pero en verdad tienen que estar allí para entender lo que les digo. Se siente literalmente como estar dentro del libro de Lewis Carroll y además a veces organizan visitas de un cosplayer que se viste como el Sombrerero Loco y si logran coincidir con eso... es otro nivel, en verdad.
There is also a lounge on the top floor where they sell merchandise alluding to the world of Alice and there is also a hidden room... In one of the hallways of the place there is a mirror that is actually an access door to The Secret Room, a space that can be rented for dinners, birthdays and events, with a capacity of up to ten people. I haven't had the chance to be there yet, but I've seen photos and videos on social media of the cafe and it's amazing. Last and not least, at Wonderland Café they serve quality dishes. Whether you want to go for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack or just something hot in the winter or cold in the summer, you will find delicious options between sweet and savory dishes. Sandwiches, ice cream, shakes, cakes, salads, there's something for all tastes and whenever I have been there I have always been satisfied with the elaborations. También hay un salón en la planta alta en donde venden mercancía alusiva al mundo de Alicia y existe además un salón secreto... En uno de los pasillos del lugar hay un espejo que en realidad es una puerta de acceso a The Secret Room, un espacio que se puede arrendar para cenas, cumpleaños y eventos, con una capacidad de hasta diez personas. Aún no he tenido la oportunidad de estar allí, pero he visto fotos y videos en las redes sociales del café y es increíble. Por último y no menos importante, en Wonderland Café sirven platos de calidad. Ya sea que quieras ir a desayunar, almorzar, cenar, merendar o sencillamente tomarte algo caliente en el invierno o algo frío en el verano, vas a encontrar opciones deliciosas entre platos dulces y salados. Sándwiches, helados, shakes, tortas, ensaladas, hay para todos los gustos y siempre que he ido he quedado satisfecho con las elaboraciones.
