Going to Cornwall for a weekend in the winter is always going to be playing Russian Roulette with the weather. Fortunately you don’t need the sun to enjoy a lunchtime crab sandwich and a pint at the Tinners Arms in Zennor near St Ives.
I say near as it’s only a few miles from St Ives town on the B3306 but anyone who knows the roads in deepest Cornwall it could easily be a 30 minute drive or more in the summer with holiday traffic.
So Hivers back to the Tinners Arms if you’re really lucky you will get a seat in the small cozy bar near the fire to drive away the winter chill. In the summer there is plenty of seating outside as well but it’s a bit chilly this time of year fortunately there are a lot less people in winter with fewer braving the coastal path which passes close to the pub so walkers often make it a convenient lunch stop.
The Tinners serves great beer and what must be the best crab sandwiches ever. Loads of crab, garlic mayo, and salad. Add some chips if you’re feeling extra hungry but I can never manage any more than the sandwich as it’s surprising filling whatever the weather.
So Hivers if you find yourself near St Ives and fancy a spot of lunch other than a pasty or fish and chips in the town nothing fits the bill better than a drive out to the Tinners in Zennor.
