Greetings of the day,
There are some days when the heart just wants to go away somewhere, get some relief from the noise, crowd and responsibilities. It was one such day when I was getting ready to go to Sarwar Sharif in Rajasthan. The morning was quite peaceful. Light sunlight was coming in through the window of the hotel room and movement had started on the street outside. I slowly got up, got dressed and went down to the hotel hall to have breakfast. Breakfast was very simple – tea, bread, a little butter and vegetables – but at that time it also seemed very tasty, perhaps because the mind was already ready for a new journey.

After breakfast, I packed my bag, checked my mobile charging, and left the hotel for Sarwar Sharif. On the way, the simplicity of Rajasthan was clearly felt – somewhere camel carts, somewhere old houses, somewhere small farms and somewhere far away dry land. The road was not very crowded but still there was a different kind of fun in that journey. The cold wind was hitting my face and I was just silently staring at the road. At that time it seemed as if a new story was waiting for me at every turn.

After some time I reached Sarwar Sharif. First of all my eyes fell on the Dargah visible from a distance. That white building and the hustle and bustle around it… everything seemed very peaceful and sacred. As I reached near the Dargah, my steps automatically slowed down. A strange peace began to descend in the heart. There was a different glow on the face of every person who came there, some had come to ask for blessings, some had come happy to have their wish fulfilled and some had come just to find peace.

There were many small shops outside the Dargah where flowers, perfumes, bedsheets and things to offer at the shrine were available. I also bought a very beautiful sheet of flowers from there. That sheet was decorated with colorful flowers and as soon as I held it in my hand I feel a different kind of peace. Then I also took some roses and incense sticks. Slowly I went inside the Dargah covered myself with a sheet, bowed my head and expressed everything in my heart before Allah. At that moment I felt as if all my tiredness and all my confusion were getting lightened automatically.

There is also a small pond near the Dargah. When I reached there there was a strange peace all around. The water of the pond was moving slightly and the reflection of the sky was visible in it. Some people were sitting there peacefully and some were taking pictures and some were just silently enjoying the atmosphere. I also sat on the same shore for some time and just felt everything – the coolness of the air, the softness of the sun and the spiritual power of that place.

After this I set out to roam in the market around the Dargah. Sarwar market is not very big but it has a different charm. Something special was available at every shop – somewhere perfume, somewhere tasbeeh, somewhere bangles, somewhere clothes and somewhere sweets. The shopkeepers were talking very quietly. I also chatted with them a bit and bought some small things as souvenirs.

While roaming in the market, I also saw some fruit shops. The mouth watered after seeing fresh bananas, apples, pomegranates and guavas. I bought some fruits from there – apples, bananas and pomegranates – to eat later. The mind became happy just seeing the freshness of those fruits. That too became a small but lovely part of my journey.

And then came the moment for which I was waiting since morning – to eat Sarwar's famous Gulab Jamun. There was a small sweet shop in the market, from where the aroma of ghee and syrup was making the whole atmosphere sweet. I took a plate of gulab jamun without thinking. When I took the plate in my hand and put the first piece in my mouth it really feel as if all the tiredness had disappeared. Those Gulab Jamuns were so soft, so juicy and so delicious that it is difficult to describe in words. Perhaps this is the reason why Sarwar's Gulab Jamuns are so famous.

I didn't realize when the afternoon had passed. After some time I again went near the Dargah and felt the atmosphere there again. Now the sun had started setting. The colors of the sky were changing, light orange and pink colors had spread. The whiteness of the Dargah looked even more beautiful in that light. People slowly started returning home but there were some who were still sitting there, as if they did not feel like leaving that place.

By evening I also had to return. I didn't feel like it at all but this is the rule of travel that every beginning has an end. I slowly left from there. On the way, I saw the same things again - fields and trees, open roads but now my mind was completely changed. When I left in the morning, there were many questions and confusions in my heart, but when I was returning in the evening, my heart had become light.
This journey to Sarwar Sharif was not just an ordinary journey. It was an experience that connected directly to the heart. The peace of the Dargah, the moments spent on the banks of the pond, the splendor of the market, the fruits bought, the taste of Gulab Jamun and the friendliness of the people – all these became moments to be remembered throughout the life.
Sometimes some places touch our soul… and Sarwar Sharif also became one such place for me.
