8 Trips to Nepal: Exploring the Authentic Flavors of the Himalayas 🍛

in Worldmappin10 hours ago (edited)

Hello, I'm rara❤️.

In my last post, I introduced the stunning snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas. Today, I’d like to share the special and delicious Nepalese foods I’ve encountered during my 8 trips to Nepal. The flavors of Nepal are just as intense and captivating as the mountain scenery. Let’s dive into the taste of the Himalayas!

"A Hearty Breakfast Before the Himalayan Trek"

"This was the breakfast I had at the hotel before starting my Himalayan trek. The Nepali staff were so kind and kept offering me refills, so I was able to enjoy a truly delicious and filling meal.

The fried bread in the center is the star—crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and incredibly savory. It’s served with tender stir-fried potatoes and a perfectly cooked omelet. Taking a piece of bread and eating it with the potatoes and egg is the perfect way to charge up your energy!

Pairing it all with a bowl of crunchy cornflakes in warm milk meant I was officially ready for the trek. It wasn't a fancy meal, but the warm hospitality made it feel like the best feast in the world."

"A Taste of Home in Pokhara: Bibimbap at Sanchon Daramji"

"The second dish I want to introduce is Bibimbap from a famous Korean restaurant in Pokhara called 'Sanchon Daramji'. This place isn't just popular among Koreans; it’s a must-visit spot for anyone traveling to Pokhara. I actually made sure to eat here at least once a day during my stay!

Today’s choice was Bibimbap, and the portion size was incredible—probably about 1.5 times larger than what you’d get in Korea. It’s enough to make you feel like your stomach might burst if you eat it alone, but perfect for sharing between two people. You can really feel the owner's generous heart in every serving.

When you spend a lot of time eating local Nepalese food, you eventually start craving a home-cooked Korean meal. Sanchon Daramji is the perfect place to satisfy that craving. All the side dishes were authentic Korean style, which made me so happy. It was a truly satisfying and delicious meal that felt like a warm hug from home!"

"A Special Invitation to Rosemary Kitchen"

"The next spot I want to introduce in Pokhara is 'Rosemary Kitchen'. I visited this place specifically to treat a special Nepalese guest.

The moment I stepped inside, I knew right away—'Oh, this place is going to be expensive!' (Haha). It was so elegant and sophisticated, a completely different vibe from the humble local eateries I usually visit. Looking at the beautiful flowers and the refined decor, I felt proud to bring my guest here, though I’ll admit I was a little worried about the prices on the menu! Still, it was a place I chose with a big heart, wanting to gift a truly wonderful meal to someone special."

"I could see the chefs busy at work in the kitchen. Seeing them in their clean uniforms, carefully preparing the dishes right in front of me, gave me a lot of confidence that this was a top-quality restaurant. Since I could see their professionalism and focus on hygiene, I felt even more proud to have brought my guest to such a reputable place."

"After taking some group photos with my guests, the food finally arrived. It was 'Dal Bhat', often called the traditional Korean-style full course meal of Nepal. I’ve had Dal Bhat at many different places during my travels, but the moment the food was served here, I could instantly feel that this place was on another level.

Seeing the rice, curry, and Dal (lentil soup) neatly presented in traditional brassware made me feel truly welcomed and pampered. Every side dish was so clean and sophisticated—it had a charm quite different from the Dal Bhat I usually eat. With great food, wonderful company, and a lovely atmosphere, it was a truly happy and satisfying meal. ^^"

"We also ordered spaghetti and a burger set, enjoying a diverse and delicious feast together. Being a high-end restaurant, even the Western dishes were beautifully plated and tasted excellent. We had such a great time sharing different dishes and talking.

On our way out after the meal, we discovered a cafe right inside the restaurant. It was spacious with such a great atmosphere that we couldn't resist staying for a cup of coffee. Wrapping up the day with a warm drink and good conversation made it a truly perfect day in Pokhara! ^^"

"A Miracle in the Himalayas: A Korean Menu in the Mountains!"

"This place isn't Korea—it’s the first rest stop we encountered while trekking the Himalayas after starting from Pokhara. As I was catching my breath from the climb, I looked up and couldn't believe my eyes! There was a menu written clearly in Korean right on the wall.

From Shin Ramyun and Chapagetti to Dak-baeksuk (chicken soup) and even Soju! I almost forgot I was in Nepal for a moment. I guess many Koreans visit this trail, but seeing our language in the heart of the mountains was so unexpected and joyful. The sheer surprise and happiness of seeing Korean text made all my trekking fatigue vanish instantly. Just imagining having Korean food with the energy of the Himalayas is enough to make anyone feel powerful!"

"A Taste of Korea with a Himalayan View: Chicken Soup in the Snow"

"We had an unforgettable meal while gazing at the stunning snow-capped Himalayas. To our surprise, the menu was Dak-baeksuk (Korean-style whole chicken soup)! The chef spoke Korean fluently, and it turned out he had actually learned how to cook in Korea.

The chicken soup and the porridge that followed tasted exactly like the authentic versions back home. But what made this meal truly extraordinary was the view outside the window. It was so magnificent that I felt this was a 'better restaurant than any high-end luxury spot in the world.' Enjoying warm soup while staring at the vast Himalayan peaks... it was a moment of pure happiness that I’ll never forget."

"After a delicious lunch, we took a beautiful group photo to capture the moment before heading down. Looking at our smiling faces with the snowy Himalayas in the background brings back all those happy memories and the crisp mountain air. With a full stomach and a heart full of warm memories, I made my way down the mountain with a big smile."

"The Joy of Street Food and a Promise for Part 2"

"Besides the sit-down meals, I also fell in love with the local street snacks and fresh fruits I found while traveling. There’s a special kind of joy in grabbing a quick bite during a road trip or tasting sun-ripened fruits from a local market.

I’ve shared quite a story today, and I truly appreciate you staying with me until the end! Believe it or not, I still have so many more dishes to show you from my 3-week stay in Nepal. I’ll be back with the rest of my foodie adventures in 'Part 2' very soon. I hope your day is as warm and bright as the Nepalese sun. Have a wonderful day!"
