My theory is that a lot of people have seen HIVE but haven't realized it: PeakD, Inleo, Ecency, 3SPEAKTV, Splinterlands. When I first encountered HIVE years ago - I wasn't exactly certain what I was looking at - and it didn't click for me that the different frontends and applications were windows to the same underlying chain.
This may seem counterintuitive to veterans here, but HIVE can also be intimidating, we have many talented writers, creators, and developers - people may look at what is here and think their own efforts wouldn't be worth rewarding. Sometimes barriers to participation are not always rational!
A lot of crypto people are looking for the shiny new thing. Because HIVE is a mature chain a lot of crypto people do not grasp that that something shiny and new is being built here every day. Tangentially a lot of people who think they aren't interested in crypto would become crypto people by reading, interacting, and creating their own content here. HIVE is a fantastic "gateway drug" to crypto.
