Dutch government forbids cash payments above 3000 EUR

Cashless society?

Today the Dutch parliament voted a law against payments in cash above 3000 EUR. This law has already been implemented a few years ago in Belgium and now The Netherlands is implementing it.

It means that sellers can get get fined if they accept bigger sums than 3000 EUR cash for the products they are selling. This all to counter money laundering and financing of terrorism. At least that is what the governments tell us it is all about.

In reality it is all about control, digital money is a lot easier to track and control… The way to a cashless society is quite short from here, sadly!
