Summer festivals
Summer festivals are huge in Belgium, there are hundreds of them. And tonight I went to one of them. The Cactus Festival in Bruges. 3 days of music in a beautiful city park of Bruges. It has been organised for over 40 years now. But the economy has changed, just like all the other festivals.
We used to pay 40 Euro for a day ticket, today it is just shy of 80 Euro. A drink cost 2,50 Euro 4 years ago, today a beer makes you 3,25 Euro poorer.
And the food is incredibly expensive. 10 Euro for a burger is not an exception.
Economy of I don’t care
That is how I call it, people just pay for the experience, no matter what. Same goes for the food and drinks. You only live once is the motto. And the organisers know it. So the festivals get more expensive year after year, as people don’t care. They just pay what is asked, and don’t care really.
It’s a strange phenomenon, despite getting more and more expensive, the festivals are sold out sooner than ever before.
A clear case of FOMO economy…
Sincerely,
