I think it's not just the "not understanding" how it works, but rather how it is difficult to actually click on that BUY button when markets are bleeding... It's not an easy task at all and not everyone can do it...
Especially with all the noise spreading on the Internet, TV, etc... People get scared and stay paralyzed...
