🪒🔊MAIN DISCOURSE. Ah, that clever serpent! If only he hadn't convinced Adam and Eve to sin. How wonderful life would be, without sin and pain, how would we understand love and beauty? Without evil, would good exist?
In Genesis 1, God creates everything, including light and darkness (Genesis 1:2-5). Light is good, darkness is bad. Darkness existed, but temptation to sin as we understand it in these verses, is not there. Adam and Eve were already made in the likeness of God, but they desired more than that. They wanted to be even more like God. It didn't take much convincing from a creature that they did not even know, but the lure of temptation was too strong. Giving into their temptation, they were rewarded with alienation, pain, and death.
The temptation of drug addict, lust, and sloth... is strong. It has afflicted so many societies today. In fact, it has afflicted so much that these temptations and sins are promoted. Where do these temptations lead? Alienation, pain, and death. There is no joy, no peace, and no good reward for giving in. Although it may seem pleasurable and appealing at first, these temptations are fleeting; these worldly delights will not last, but we have been shown the path to a life everlasting. The choice is ours.
PRAYER:
Dear Father and saviour of mankind, deliver us from the recurring power of temptations and addiction. Give us wisdom and courage to minister to those who are struggling with these vices. May we bring them to You and seek Your love to deliver from loneliness. Help us to bring them to You for rehabilitation and restoration in the household of faith, for there's strength in numbers. Let us not forsake gathering of the saints so that our faith will be strong and reinforced in You in Jesus' name - Amen.
