There is nothing better in life than eating what you have made with your own hands or those of a family member, knowing what is in the food, how it is made and above all that it is made with love.
I am not one of those people who buys ready-made or pre-made food. Those meals that are mass-produced by machines that do not know what ingredients they really contain and on the other hand are considered harmful to health, such as the excess of flour and sweets.
These ingredients are addictive and cause a lot of problems, and there is nothing like enjoying homemade food. Even the taste is very different from bought food with so many chemicals.
In my family since I was little we have enjoyed pizza, handmade pizza, without additives, preservatives and those weird things, pizza made with love.
My maternal grandmother was Italian, the daughter of original Italians, although born in Argentina, and I think from that part of the family I inherited my taste for Italian food and especially homemade food.
In my family it is sacred to eat pizza once a week, but not like the bought ones, but kneaded by hand, made with patience, leavening time, natural ingredients. My favourite pizza is not favourite because it is topped with certain things or ingredients such as cheese, peppers, olives, anchovies, ham, bacon, but because it is handmade, or homemade.
The dough that is made in my family is left to leaven for many hours, the more hours of leavening the more delicious it tastes, and if it is made with fresh yeast it is much better. Then on top of it goes a sauce made with onion, tomato, oregano, very thick and then put the above mentioned on top of it, although not all together.
Sometimes we put cheese or mozzarella, olives, ham and sometimes we alternate different ingredients. The essential thing is the dough which will give it a special flavour, very different from bought pizzas made with chemicals or things we don't know what they are.
The other important thing is that the pizza is made on family day, the day we can all be together for lunch, no matter what day of the week it is. As if pizza and family meant the same thing. I remember the pizzas my grandmother used to make were so tall they looked like cakes... I remember that.
Eating homemade pizza, made as a family on family day and eating it fresh out of the oven is a blessing, something that can't be explained in words. To enjoy it with the people you love the most, no matter how much work it took to make that pizza. Normally the dough is made the day before and the leavening is twelve hours, yes twelve hours, because we discovered that it is more delicious that way.
In my family we make homemade food prevail, made by ourselves, knowing what we eat and how it is made and if we ever go out to a restaurant we choose one that we know the quality of the food. But there is nothing like family pizza, which has become a tradition and custom over the years.
