👻 G H O S T 👻
A few weekends back we started seeing this ghostly grey/white/tan/cream/beige kitty passing thru around the 6am/6pm feed times of our outdoor feral kitties that we give sanctuary to here at the Pookyville Cat Ranch in Northern Central Florida (usa)
He appeared in the early morning hours when the moonlight and headlights from the car gave him a ghostly appearance. So the name ghost was a no brainer. We have since settled in on Dexter (The Ghost Kitty)
All of our fur kits have several names (nicknames) and several explicit curse words that fit them and their behaviors.
This young man cat as we have determined by his swingin' set of ballz is somewhere in the 2-3 yrs of age range. The vet when we get him ✓'d out in the next week or so will better be able to verify his age as well as health. No signs of being chipped. That usually takes place when neutered and this guy is clean and healthy altho very skinny and starving. We are baffled as to why this majestic looking kitty with such an awesome and friendly personality is homeless. He would not have survived long in the outdoors with such a trusting non feral attitude. Neighbors nearby have been notified and nobody in the last two weeks has been around asking anyone about a lost cat.
So fast forward to this #weekend-engagement posting about this ghostly feline visitor from somewhere else in space and time.
It was early evening approximately 7 pm on Monday. After feeding him on our front deck.
Ghost circled around to the back door area of the Ranch House. We gave him a little more food and I decided to pick up the food bowl, open the door to the catification room and walk in to see what Ghost would do.
360° View of Catification Room
He followed me right inside just a chattering away asking for his bowl back. He quickly darted back out the door and sat at the bottom of the steps now yelling at me in Cantonese Cat-onees. Meowing loudly. I sat down in the middle of the room on the floor and just kept softly talking to him. After about 5 minutes he came back inside. He has been in here with us since. I spent the night in that room sleeping on the couch in there with ghost. I discovered what a friendly and scared kitty he was. He passed the litter box test within that first 12 hours. Dexter the Ghost has been 💯% in the box since Monday. It is Friday evening here now.
I have spent a couple nights this week with Ghost and have watched the fear and uncertainty fade away. His confidence and trust in us has grown in leaps and bounds.
We were not looking to add another one to the mix. But when a cat this awesome literally falls in your lap. How can we not do what is right and save him from an almost guaranteed death sentence of trying to survive outdoors. If this was somebody's...
Indoor/Outdoor Cat
Indoor outdoor cats as they call them..?
Well Shame On Them
There are many types of animal neglect, from tying a dog by the neck to a tree or post. To letting a pet go outside to play in traffic. They sometimes just disappear. One can only hope someone who really cares if they live or die finds them before a predator or car tire does.
The rescue of Dexter the Ghost is going well so far. The introduction to the rest of the fur family will be in small steps. The neuter will be fast tracked. And I have hopes of a really nice addition to our pride.
Thanks as always for not Ghosting ol KrazzyTrukker and helping us to save a few of our feline friends along the way.
Special Shout Out to the W.E. team creator and moderator for all they he does.
Mind blowing how we are still doing this nearly every weekend on what seems like forever now. Gotta love that right? Unless you don't in wich case you can fuq off.
