The day I will never forget in a hurry!

It was one faithful afternoon. About 10 years ago! I went outside to play with my friends after having lunch. But I was surprised to see no one outside, little did I know I was going to see a very fearful sight!

Since I didn't see my friends outside I was playing alone thinking they'd soon come to join me as usual, it took a while and no one was coming but I assumed they were all busy and so I continued playing alone.

Then we lived in a very big yard with a lot of people, and most people that lived there were confirmed armed robbers, and so that day I was out playing I saw some group of men on black carrying guns and walking towards the building. They looked very scary, I was also confused of what to do, whether to run away or hide somewhere, my mind also told me that they've already seen me that I can't hide.

So I quickly began running! "Hey, stop there" screamed one of the men!
I thought they were talking to me but I didn't mind, I continued running towards our own house. Next thing I heard was gunshots and open fire. Feared gripped me, but I kept running and didn't look back for a second.

Then my mom, Grandma, aunt and other siblings were the ones inside the house. My grandma opened the door for me and ordered me to run inside fast! I was sure I was very fast enough to enter the house, but Unfortunately the bullet hit my grandma! This was terrible!

Thankfully my aunt and my mom knew what first aid to give to someone who was shot before taking them to the hospital, so they helped my grandma for the meantime. Soon they stopped the shooting outside and my grandma was taken to the hospital!
As a child I was very confused, I also blamed myself for my grandma getting shot and prayed she didn't die as a result. That was the worst day of my life!

Good enough my grandma survived the bullet, even though she still died the next year but I'm glad it wasn't from the bullet or I'd still blame myself. Something else I'm happy about is that we no longer live in that terrible place, with bad memories.

There have been a lot of bad days for me, but that day...is the day I would never forget in a hurry!

Heart aches
This is sad, but life goes on. My grandma passed about 9yrs ago too. It's a tragedy. An experience that not only teaches lessons but also facts about survival

Thank you for posting the piece in the Inkwell community, @madilyn02. Is this in response to the spirit prompt? The events described are certainly dramatic, unforgettable. To be chased and shot at, to have your grandmother wounded--these are horrible memories. You capture your childhood fear well. There are some issue with the story.

It is very short. We ask that pieces posted in the community have a minimum length of about 750 words. That is not mandatory, but it is a guideline. Also, in your first line you write 'One faithful day'. You probably meant to write, 'One fateful day'.

We are happy, as readers, to learn that your family moved from that dangerous environment.

Thank you for sharing this most dramatic memory with us, @madilyn02.

Thank you so much, yes it was a dramatic story and an unforgettable one.
Thank you so much for the corrections, I'll be sure to apply it next time...
