Food is a very necessary component in the growth of a person. Whatever you take in or consume as a child, if care is not taken might determine how you grow up; whether you'll have serious medical complications or not; and whether you'll need support, be it taking meds or on medical support from the age of 30 or you'll be jogging by the age of 80.
I take what I eat very seriously, apart from the fact that it determines how strong I am, but mostly because I grew up with a mom who was very strict with what we ate and still is. Even though she isn't a nutritionist, she acts like she is more than that. She does a lot of research on foodstuffs and spices; their health nutritional benefits and disadvantages and chooses what we eat based on that. Growing up, we hardly bought food from outside. We almost always ate homecooked food and somehow, that has stuck with me till now.
I love to cook what I eat. I love to experiment with new things when I'm cooking and someway somehow it still turns out great. I prefer home-cooked meals because I know the content of what I'm eating. I know the kind of foodstuff I used, in what condition they were in, and the kind of spices I'm about to consume.
This is not the case for takeout or foods cooked outside. The content of the food is unknown. Most times, the kind of foodstuff they used and the condition the foodstuffs were in is nothing to write home about. They also use a lot of artificial spices also known as A1 which isn't something I'd like to take on the regular. My mom would tell me, "They don't really care about your health, they only care about the taste because that's what is bringing them money, and hence will add anything just to make it taste good". Sadly, that's the case for most takeouts.
I recall a terrible experience I had in secondary school. In school, there was no way you could prepare food, and the food in the dining hall wasn't enough so most time, you had to depend on your provisions. This is the case where my provisions were done too. It was sports week, so people prepared food to sell to the students (even though it was kind of illegal). I bought fried rice with my friend, and we ate. I woke up the next morning with a swollen face and itchy skin. I was unrecognizable. My friends gave me the name "chubby buddy" because that was the way I was looking, and since then, that made me detest takeouts the more
Another reason I hate takeouts is the amount of money I see myself losing to buy food I can prepare. I hate to spend money on food knowing very well I have the ingredients at home and also two hands. The thought of that kills me and anytime I make up my mind to buy takeouts, I end up cooking rather. Takeouts are expensive and sometimes not worth it.
Food I normally buy outside is snacks and pastries apart from that, I only buy takeouts when I'm in the tightest of positions and have no choice else, homecooked all the way.
