There are some phrases we all hear as kids that make us jump in excitement. Be it at home, school or in the playground, some words, phrases or sentences just signified joy while others meant a bit of pain. Today, I want to talk about one of such phrases that always got me excited.
"Once upon a time", a phrase I am pretty sure we have all had an encounter with. What does "once upon a time" stand for in your life? For me, it will always be a time that allowed me disconnect from serious things in this world, just live in the moment and have some fun.
Way back in primary school and junior high school, my teachers always made sure to have a session during the day that will be dedicated for this. During random periods, my teachers would yell "once upon a time" and immediately you would hear loud cheers and noises.

What was nice about this was that it allowed the teachers to share very fun and interesting stories with my and my classmates. Some were true and had lessons to be learnt but because it was meant to help us forget about the serious studies in school at least for a while, it was usually centered around fun, made up stuff.
What this did was that it allowed us students to be able to share with each other our thoughts. It allowed for the creative ones in the class to realize they had the potential to come up with nice stories worth sharing. Because once upon a time was something my classmates and I liked, it made us think of stories all the time.

Some people even implemented this in their homes because they always wanted to have something to say. It was the one time in class during school hours we didn't talk about school and it was allowed. You can just imagine how nice it was to be able to make noise and talk about things that didn't relate to the books. I don't know about you but learning for probable 8 hours a day is very exhausting.
Even during times were teachers weren't in class, they would trust us to be in class having "once upon a time" and not making unnecessary noise.
When I got to senior high school, I thought we would have something like this but to my surprise, we had nothing of this sort. Senor high school experience was very class orientated and studies orientated. The teachers didn't have time for that. But I guess in a way it was there too. Only that, they shared more about their personal life and some of the funny things they did in their youth. We students didn't share as much.
So, anytime I hear, "once upon a time", I am immediately reminded of my early schooling days, my teachers, my classmates and those amazing stories we shared with each other. Allow me to ask again what comes to your mind when you hear this phrase.
Or is there any other phrase that holds such significance in your life like this does to me?
