We as Indians just love to drink Milk, and Indians just drink so much milk that the founder of the MILK MANTRA, Srikumar Misra, chose milk above millions of dollars. It all started when Srikumar Misra quit his London job to start Milk Mantra, which is a dairy food company based out of Odisha. But as it comes with starting a new business, it came with problems of its own. He faced two major problems: first was that people didn't trust the milk they were buying was pure, and the second was just a money problem where he needed 5 million dollars just to start the Business
To solve the trust issue, Srikumar Misra launched Milky Moo which was a sweet boiling Milk, a first in eastern India which primarily focused on its quality, with it they also focused on the quality drive of the campaign which was insane; The Milk in itself was fresh and tasty and they marketed as such that it's better for our children to drink MILKY MOO. He also built trust through his ethical sourcing model, paying farmers rupees 25 to 29 per litre directly every 10 days, providing veterinary services, and helping them get loans for cows. By doing this, Srikumar Misra not only tripled milk production but also solidified himself as a person who had the good interests of the farmers in mind.
When no investor would touch a dairy company in Odisha, Srikumar Misra didn't give up, and he pieced together funding from small investors, 5 lakh to 60 lakh at a time. Starting with just one collection centre, Milk Mantra grew to 390 centres, collecting 100,000 plus litres daily across four states. Today, it works with 68,000 farmers, serves 300,000 households, and was recently acquired by Hath Sanagro for 233 crore.
This proves that sometimes the biggest opportunities aren't in inventing something new but in fixing something basic that everyone else has ignored.
