Mr Sunday's retirement celebration was held today at the office. Finally, he was done with civil service and would now be spending his remaining days in freestyle living with his beautiful wife on a seaside bungalow he had recently purchased.
Listening to his pals complimenting him on his achievements while also declaring his assets for us to applaud, resonated deep within me. What are my expectations for the year? What am I really looking forward to this year?
I had high hopes and expectation when crossing over to the new year, after all my official slogan was "big girl with a bigger God". Ending the year in style was something I wanted guaranteed.
When I say in style it's not just relegated to ending the year with a fat bank account with the figure ending in six zeros but with some few extras as well.
Would Fred finally pop the question? Would I say "yes".. definitely. The wedding would be held in Bahamas, a beachful wedding, with friends and loved ones in attendance to attest to the auspicious event. After that it would be a two weeks destination honeymoon in Dubai. By the way all these would be sponsored by my "godfather" who is a Senator 😁.
On arrival from destination honeymoon, we would be greeted with a surprise home in a delectable estate on the island. As if that's all about surprises, Fred my hubby presents me with a key to a brand new Honda Accord. "It's for smooth sailing to and from work babe" he says as he hands me the keys.
I was so gassed up, I forgot to breathe. His kiss brought me back from "cloud nine". I gave him a big warm hug as I said "thank you hubby". From then on, our lives moved on smoothly like a Cinderella fairytale, where I was of cos "Cinderella"😁.
Cruising to and from work in my new car earned me the admiration of my friends and colleagues. Life was beautiful and the home front was as peaceful as "Mufasa's kingdom".
Three months into being a married woman and I develop symptoms of the flu. Thanks to the quick witted thinking of my hubby and we were at the hospital in no time. Series of tests came out with nothing except for one, which is the PT test, proving that I have been successfully put in the family way. When hubby received the news, he was so happy that his eyes glistened with tears of joy.
Soon we headed home from the hospital after more series of check ups and advices form the doctor with a promise to return back for prenatal registration in about two weeks. Hubby began spreading the good news and soon the house was flooded with a sea of family members, friends and a few colleagues to congratulate us on the good news.
I had often heard that happiness makes one giddy, that was exactly what I was feeling. I bagged a good man, a loving family, a great career and now a new member was on the way.."this is the life" I thought as a big smile was plastered on my face.
"A round of applause for Mr Sunday as he comes up to say a few words of appreciation", the emcee's voice booming via the speakers brought me out of my reverie. Looking around to see if anyone had noticed me being lost and in a daze, I was quite pleased to see that everyone's focus was on the "actual celebrant of the day" and not me.
I let out a small breath as I joined the others in applauding the celebrant. "Is my expectation a tall order?", I couldn't help but ponder, who knows..?
This is my response to the #neoxian-city writing prompt #13.
Thank you all for reading.
