Welcome to a lazy Saturday post, it's been a long day so it's a much needed "brake"
I usually have Saturdays off and I drop off the kids to see their mom, however we did a swap so that they instead will spend time with her on mothers day.
My mom usually takes one of the kids on the weekend to help lighten my work load and so she took my little girl and it was only me and the boy today well for the most part she got dropped off close to bed time.
It was tough being productive while taking care of the boy but we managed to do a bit of grocery shopping and I even started working on a little project.
Women always complain that it takes their man forever to finish project, and I guess there is some truth to it being a personal project the pressure was way less so this project has been sitting on the back burner for a while.
Originally I was going to make a cool coffee table with some scrap wood I got from my old job, well I finally got around to it and it's no longer a coffee table, with the acquisition of new printers and equipment I find myself needing another table and so I got to crafting, it's not the nicest wood but it will do the trick I can always paint or stain it but I will likely get to that at a later time.
With some measuring some miter saw cut some drilling and screwing I end up with a reasonable table, I may still add some extra supports to the bottom.
Originally when it was supposed to be a coffee table I had an idea of utilizing the hole in the middle to house some usb connectors and the likes but now with it being a regular table I just quickly designed and printed some lips for the holes, that way I can hide away the rough wood finish.
Next I tested out a piece to sit on the side that will wrap around the entire edge, Like I said this was a test piece as I wanted to make sure I get a snug sliding fit before I print the finished part.
After a few test pieces I got a nice snug fit with the test print and started to print 2 of the edge pieces.
Naturally I will need to print 2 more, I could have printed 4 at a time but I figured it's safer to do 2 if I run into issues with fitting somehow.
I will also need some pieces for the middle as the corners are not long enough, I still need about 30 CM of this covering for the middle sections, however my new fast printer can't accommodate such a size so I will have to either make the middle section out of 2 parts or use my bigger printer.
below is a picture of the printer screen, these 2 will take about 3 hours to print, the same print would be around at least 12 hours on the big one the only saving grace there would be less parts needed to cover the print I could have used 4 super long corner pieces but like I mentioned would take longer and also I would have not been able to use my cool new print sheet that defract light giving off a rainbow like effect, I will use that on the middle section I could have not really used them on the corners well I could have but only the side touching the build plate would get the special texture and there would be no way around that besides braking down the corner into 2 pieces, I didn't want to bother so the cool texture will only be in the middle it's also on the surface of the center hole cover.
I am printing all the parts in this glow in the dark filaments, I will likely share another update if and when I get it stained/painted and fully finished.
So much for a lazy Saturday post this one turned out pretty long... damn it I knew I should have just made some art to share with y'all today 😂
