The Baking Experience

They say necessity is the mother of invention and I have seen this play out very often.

Earlier this year, my friend and I wanted to eat cake just for the fun of it. You know that moment when you are craving a particular food just because it's been long or you saw someone else eating or talking about it. That was exactly what happened.

We decided to go get a cake from the restaurant nearby but on getting there, the price of the smallest cake was quite expensive so we didn't buy. We decided to check another restaurant and it was still a similar outcome.

We decided to go buy materials for baking cake and bake it ourselves especially since she could bake to an extent.

Off we went to the market, with a list of items like flour, egg, butter, baking powder, flavour, etc.
It was interesting for me because I had never been fully involved in the process and the last time I participated was many years ago. I had forgotten how it's done.

Within a few minutes, we had gotten all we needed from the market and we proceeded home.

On getting home, we started. She was doing each step while explaining it to me and I helped put in many steps because it was quite easy.

After mixing the cake, we used an improvised oven by pouring some sand into a pot and allowing it to heat a little. We then put the cake in a pan and put inside the pot.
It was now time to wait.

After about 40 minutes, our cake was ready and we brought it down.
Seeing the result really made me proud and I even decided I would bake one myself next time I start craving it again.

It cost us less than half of the price we were told and I was quite certain ours was more nutritious. The only thing lacking in our cake was the icing which is just sugar so I believe our decision was worth it because not only did we save cost, we also had fun baking the cake and as for me, I learnt how to bake, lol.

Since that day, I have become more open to preparing my own food because I am assured of the quality and the cost it is equally cost effective.

Before that incident, I used to think that baking cake would be a very difficult task but thankfully, I don't think like that anymore.
