Fried Yam and Stew!

Who else loves fried yams and stew?

I bet, it’s one of the meals that makes you feel better afterwards. Let me tell you a story about my love for fried yams and stew. Come with me…

I was very young then, and there was a woman who sold various snacks, including fried yams, potatoes, and akara (bean cake). She was also a neighbour, and so we grew fond of her because there were times when she’d add extra when we bought from her.

We usually eat fried yams for lunch when we return home from school, and her pepper was always delicious. At that time, your stomach could be filled with just #20 fried yams and stew, but can you even get that today? Nah! You would most likely get that for over a thousand naira today and it won’t even fill your stomach to any extent.

It’s why I love to make a homemade meal where I can eat and be satisfied and still have some left for later. She made me love that meal.

Whenever I buy yams, I make sure to prepare fried yams and stew, garnished with some fish in it to make it more delicious and tasty. Yams are also expensive now, but when it comes to satisfying your cravings, you won’t have a choice but to get them done. At least I buy 3 big tubers of yams around #2500-3000, and they always come out nice when peeled.

I take my time to prepare my fried yams and stew; not to mention cutting them into small slices before frying because it makes more sense eating it that way than leaving it big or rounded. I could say that if you want to get through me, then make some of these for me and you’d see my happy mood. Hehehe…just joking, but on a serious note, I love it when I can enjoy a plate of fried yams and fish stew.

My sister ate it the other day and wished she could continue eating, but that can’t be possible because apart from how expensive yams are, the stress of frying them takes it to another level for me, which I don’t think I can commit to, even though I also wouldn’t mind eating them daily.

So, tell me, when last did you eat fried yams and stew? If you haven’t, you should do that soon or if you’d like me to help you, I don’t charge a lot and it would be delivered at your doorstep instantly 😃

Oh, the picture quality of your meal instantly caught me attention. It's exactly clear and crisp! Well done.

Then to the meal itself. It looks so yummy and I almost have zero doubts that this would taste so good. I had boiled yam and stew yesterday and I enjoyed it, but truly, I prefer fried yam with any stew/sauce. This post only made me realize how much I crave it, so I'll make sure I make some next week.🥰 And the issue of naira devaluation and increase in purchasing goods like yam that used to be 500-1000 naira. God help us!

Lovely to read from you again, by the way. It's been a very long time. If you're wondering, this is Faith Patrick. Have a lovely weekend.🙂

Ehhh, the Yam in our place is the Ube, its color is purple. I think I haven't tried the white yam, not sure if ee have that in the Philippines. It looks like a Taro crop 🤔. Anyways, that looks good, like it is good as fried potato too
