Are you a Matcha Lover?

If you love to have Matcha than that 400 rupees matcha latte you're sipping almost regularly might be a legal scam and you don't even know about it.

Matcha is currently having a major hype moment in India. The market's set to touch 400 crore rupees by 2033. But here's the problem: there's no official definition of what counts as matcha in India and a lot of companies are taking unfair advantage of it. That means brands can grind up basic green tea, throw in some food coloring or spirulina, and still call it matcha and as consumers we will know no better and even if we do know it we can't do anything about it.

Cafes are basically buying matcha for 40 rupees and selling it to us as a 400 rupee latte and earning a huge markup while they are at it. And we're buying it, thinking the higher price means higher purity and we are definitely getting the authentic Matcha.

So next time you see that bright green latte, ask yourself if it's really about health or just hype.
