THE MEAL I ENJOY

I'm no foodie but there are meals that I could eat for so long without ever getting tired. I'm very very picky but it applies not to these few meals. Actually, I think there's just two of them. There's egusi soup with swallow(garri, in particular) and then there's yam.

Yam, it happens to be my best meal of all time. I remember growing up and always saying that I loved fried rice and chicken. It was cliché then. The kids I grew up around said it a lot. We would get older and begin to say how overrated a meal it is and how we all assumed we liked it very much cause it wasn't the regular type of rice that we usually ate at home. Mostly, we got to have them at functions. You know that thing about longing for and craving what you don't have, yeah? That was it.
Many of them would port over to jollof rice -party jollof rice. They would say it tasted better.

Me, I was hardly involved in the arguments. I like rice. I like the varieties. I enjoy the flavourfulness, but it didn't do it for me. Yam did. Yam does. This prompt has me thinking back to how, whenever I visited the village my grandma always indulged me. She, almost daily, made me roast Yam, which I dip in red oil and enjoy. My taste buds pulse just from the thought of it. She liked yam, too. And so does my mum. It's her favorite dish, as well.

This also makes me remember how my dad always stocks the house full of yam when in season. We never ever run out of it during its season. He'd buy them and say it was for me. Man spoils me.

One thing I like the meal for is it's versatility. Rice has that too, I know, but yam just trumps. Knowing that I could have it as porridge, fried, roasted, boiled and eaten with whatever sauce(or even soup) that I please and still feel(read as taste) like I was having a whole different kind of meal is exciting enough.

Yam is pretty easy to prepare. Just peel, cut in desired size, depending on the method of cooking in use and set it on fire. It's a sweet, filling meal, rich in fibre and carbohydrate amd when paired or made into whatever dish, it's most likely to fit in as a balanced diet.

See, i just like yam. It's just easy to prepare and tasty. I don't do that favourite thingy but in this case, it counts.

My guys, @emreal and @supernova004 come over here and share what your favorite meals are with us.

Thanks for gracing this post.
