Qurator's: Hive Top Chef! | Beans | Red bean hamburgers
Greetings dear friends, welcome to my blog. Today I am once again joining the weekly contest Qurator's: Hive Top Chef! | Beans. For this cooking with beans challenge, I had a hard time deciding, but this time I chose red kidney beans to prepare some vegan burgers. I was sure that at home they would think they were beef, because the resemblance is impressive.
The recipe is simple, it does not have many ingredients, just onion, garlic and some seasonings. It is necessary to give consistency to the dough, and that is where the bread crumbs I used come into play, I left them in the refrigerator for 24 hours. Preparing them right away is not a good idea because they will break in the same pan. With the amount of red beans corresponding to one cup, I obtained six hamburgers. The idea is to make them a little thick, about 1 cm, with little oil and the good news is that they will not shrink when cooked. I was happy with the result, they were very tasty, soft, and of course, they are a very nutritious option for any time of the day.
- 1 cup red beans
- 85 grs of white onion
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 6 tablespoons bread crumbs
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
1.-. Wash the red beans and soak overnight.
2.- The next day, wash the beans and cook them with a teaspoon of salt until tender. Let them cool until they reach room temperature.
3.- Cut the onion and garlic into pieces.
4.- Then, place the garlic and onion in a food processor and grind it.
5.- We also grind the red beans until they become a dough, which is as homogeneous as possible. Then, place the dough in a bowl, add the seasonings and salt to taste and mix. We also incorporate the onion and garlic that we have crushed and mix again. It is important to correct the salt content.
6.- To give consistency to the dough, we add three tablespoons of bread crumbs and mix. Then, we assemble the hamburgers and spread bread crumbs on both sides, using the remaining three tablespoons. To give firmness to the hamburgers, wrap them in plastic wrap and leave them in the refrigerator for 24 hours.
7.- The next day, take the hamburgers out of the refrigerator and cook them with little oil, just spread it in the pan so that they are done on the griddle and over medium low heat. Let them brown on both sides.
We are done, we can now serve the red bean burgers, ready to eat with vegetables or to please palates by preparing delicious vegan burgers.
