An easy to cook Steamed Dish

in Plant Power (Vegan)last year

Happy to be a part of this plantvegan community where we get a chance to be a part if universal cooking. A Happy Day to all Hiveans.

Today, I would like to share a traditional steamed sweet dish, also being a part of a competition oragnised by @qurator under the title steamed food in Hive Top Chef competition.

To brief about this food, here in our country, we use it either as a breakfast or as an evening snack with hot tea. It is made in banana leaf. Preparation is quite easy. The only thing required is the initiative and interest to enjoy, while cooking.

Before cooking, make sure to cut the banana leaves, wash and wipe it clean.

Preparation time : 20 - 25 minutes
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED:
For the dough

  • Water - 1 cup
  • Wheat flour - 1.5 cup
  • Salt as per your requirement.
  • Cooking oil - 1tsp

Heat the water, along with the required salt and oil, in a suitable pan. Once it starts boiling, add the wheat flour little by little, until it becomes a little hard.
Switch off the flame and knead into smooth dough, only when when the heat reduces. Keep aside.

For the filling

  • Grated Coconut - 2 cups
  • Jaggery ( as per your requirement in sweetness)
  • Rice flakes - 1 cup
  • Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
  • Mix all the above ingredients well.

Cooking Instruction:

  • Firstly, make as many small balls, lime sized, out of the prepared dough.

  • Now take those clean banana leaves and place each small ball in the leaf and spread them with your hand on the leaf.
  • Continue the process until the dough gets completed.

  • Now keep the coconut filling in each dough spread. Half the dough should be filled with this jaggery çoconut filling. And then fold it from one corner to other corner..

  • Now take a steamer and pressure cook them for 10 minutes.

Once done, the aroma of the dish as it is prepared in banana leaf is irresistable. You can have it hot with a cup of tea.

All these pictures are of my own, unless othwrwise stated, captured from my mobile.

Good evening @shamis. I see this is your first time posting in this community. I also checked your blog and did not find a presentation post on Hive, which is why I will make two requests:

  • It is necessary that you make an introduction post to the platform, where you say who you are, where you live, what your interests are, how you came to Hive, and any other information you consider necessary. In this post you should also include photos of yourself, as it is a way to get to know you.

  • Being new to this community, it is necessary that you appear in a minimum of three photos making your recipes. In this post you appear in only one, the last one corresponds to the ready dish. This request also applies to the communities: Foodies Bee Hive, Amazing Drinks and Creative Cuisine.

Thank you.

Thankyou so much. Will definitely put this into consideration before posting the next one . I hv put an introductory post in the beginning my friend, me being from India.

Wow, looks good and easy one to me; but I don't have banana leaves at my place. What else can I use instead?

Good Morning. This is alo one of the most popular leaf used more than banana leaf for this purpose. I googled its name - Macaranga peltata.
Use can use this if available in your country.

Thanks a lot for taking so much effort for me!
Although I also live in your country itself but don't have any access to these leaves as I don't have these trees in my garden and these leaves ain't available in the local market.
But nv, I enjoyed your recipe and would like to give it a try whenever I find an opportunity for it 😻

Oh..ok..plz do gv a try. Its tasty and easy to cook. Bye
