Happy to be a part of this plantvegan community where we get a chance to be a part if universal cooking. A Happy Day to all Hiveans.
Today, I would like to share a traditional steamed sweet dish, also being a part of a competition oragnised by @qurator under the title steamed food in Hive Top Chef competition.
To brief about this food, here in our country, we use it either as a breakfast or as an evening snack with hot tea. It is made in banana leaf. Preparation is quite easy. The only thing required is the initiative and interest to enjoy, while cooking.
Before cooking, make sure to cut the banana leaves, wash and wipe it clean.
Preparation time : 20 - 25 minutes
INGREDIENTS REQUIRED:
For the dough
- Water - 1 cup
- Wheat flour - 1.5 cup
- Salt as per your requirement.
- Cooking oil - 1tsp
Heat the water, along with the required salt and oil, in a suitable pan. Once it starts boiling, add the wheat flour little by little, until it becomes a little hard.
Switch off the flame and knead into smooth dough, only when when the heat reduces. Keep aside.
For the filling
- Grated Coconut - 2 cups
- Jaggery ( as per your requirement in sweetness)
- Rice flakes - 1 cup
- Cardamom powder - 1 tsp
- Mix all the above ingredients well.
Cooking Instruction:
- Firstly, make as many small balls, lime sized, out of the prepared dough.
- Now take those clean banana leaves and place each small ball in the leaf and spread them with your hand on the leaf.
- Continue the process until the dough gets completed.
- Now keep the coconut filling in each dough spread. Half the dough should be filled with this jaggery çoconut filling. And then fold it from one corner to other corner..
- Now take a steamer and pressure cook them for 10 minutes.
Once done, the aroma of the dish as it is prepared in banana leaf is irresistable. You can have it hot with a cup of tea.
