The rainy season makes me crave snacks more than usual. So, I decided to make bakwan. Some people call it bala-bala or kue bawang. It's always delicious, especially when enjoyed in cold weather like this.
It's one of those comfort foods that feels perfect on a chilly day. You know, the kind of snack that warms you up, not just from the inside but from all the nostalgia it brings, reminding you of simpler moments spent at home, with the rain tapping on the window, and the smell of fried food filling the air.
Ingredients:
- 150g all-purpose flour
- 200g cabbage (shredded)
- 1 medium carrot (grated)
- 100ml water (adjust for batter consistency)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 2-3 stalks green onions (chopped)
- Cooking oil for frying (enough to submerge the fritters)
Instructions:
- Shred the cabbage and grate the carrot.
- In a bowl, mix the flour with water to create a thick batter.
- Add the salt, pepper, and chopped green onions. Stir until well combined.
4.Heat oil in a frying pan and fry spoonfuls of the mixture until golden brown.
Making this is truly simple, isn’t it?
It tastes even better when paired with a warm drink. I made tea to go along with it.
And if you're into spicy flavors, adding a bit of chili sauce to the bakwan with soy sauce makes it just perfect.
It's like a little surprise with each bite, and it's the kind of meal that feels so comforting on a rainy day, don’t you think?
