Sounds like you already well into your travel (will have to go back to see UK). Actually a pleasure having roads cordoned off making walking a lot easier with more police on the beat....

Accommodation sound like a grand place with tiny lift, high ceilings and a pleasure to have the floor to the family, love those tucked away little places!

Car rental sounds the same as it was when we went over in the 70s always have to take note about everything, then hand over a tediously long process to prove everything is still there.
