CCC's Street Art Contest #198 Murals in Council Bluffs, IA

in StreetArt4 months ago

Hello friends and Hivers. Today I enter the CCC's Street Art Contest #198 brought to us by @digi-me. There's still time to enter if your interested. Just make sure to check out the article and follow the rules by clicking here. So I will show you some murals I heard about a few weeks ago that I finally got out to see today.

This mural is titled, "Empowering Youth for Global Change" by artist Dany Reyes. It is located at 2200 2nd Avenue in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It is conveniently located across the street from Cochran Park. I took the picture of the mural from the park.

The artists chose and admired this location because of his children. The kids attend a school across the street from the face of the building and they spent a lot of their childhood playing in this park. The property itself is a small apartment building. The building is a bit dated but I love the look of these older properties. I think the mural brings it to life.

The mural has a nice message on it. It says," Every child's gift has the power to change the world." The mural itself shows each child acting out a particular profession. This mural is a reality because our youth really are the future and they will have an impact on our world. My favorite part of this mural is the girl doctor checking out the male musician as he's playing a guitar.

This mural was painted by Artist Weston Thomson and it is named, "Dream Builder." It is located at 29 South 21st Street in Council Bluffs, Iowa. It's location is also close to the park above but this one is actually on a bike trail.

This is a tribute mural to the building owner John Roth. Mr. Roth is a local home builder. The mural shows the trade industry by showing architectural drawings, equipment, and tools. The "500" represent how many houses he built while the wording "Lefty" and the hammer in a left hand represent he was a lefty. The artist believes the mural is a testament to history and contemporary expression, honoring past and giving Council Bluffs a vibrant spirit to its present day.

This mural is named, " The Fabric of Council Bluffs" and it's Artist is Ilaammen Pelshaw. It's located at 3415 West Broadway in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I'll admit if your not particularly looking for this you likely won't run into it. It's simply not in a high traffic area.

This mural represents some of the historic events and amenities of Council Bluffs, Iowa. The first photo shows the golden spike. Council Bluffs is the starting point of the Transatlantic Railway which connected the eastern and western United States via rail.

The second photo represents World Radio Laboratories (WRL) which use to reside in this building. The radio pictured is a Galaxy 300 Radio from 1964. Also their is a painting of a tall alien looking figure that represents a display that is at River's Edge Park which is near The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. It is referred to as "Looking Up."

The third photo represents the Missouri River which separates Council Bluffs, Iowa from Omaha, Nebraska. The last thing on the mural is Railway Street car. Their were railway street cars that ran back and forth from Omaha to Council Bluffs. This happened for a good part of the 20th century up until the 1950's. I wish I could have seen them especially going across the bridge over the river.

I found this mural interesting but a lot has to do with seeing it's meaning. I guess living here long enough I know the cities history. My favorite part of the mural is the street car. Across the river, Omaha is bringing back the street car. I will surely check it out and give it a try.

Well I hope you enjoyed this little show of murals in my locale. The good thing is there is more to show at another time. Take care, stay safe, and enjoy what's left of the weekend.

Im not aware of this murals in Singapore and even in Philippines😅. Or maybe I just don't pay attention to what I am seeing.

I've seen some street art from the Philippines here. I would think Singapore would have many as well. Perhaps an adventure for @asiaymalay to find some and report, hehe.

These are great and I love the information you shared about them as well. As a very small child I remember riding on the Interurban street car with my grandmother to go visit my great grandmother. I imagine it looked similar to this one.

Thanks they were a pleasure to see and I got some steps in 😊

I've never experienced but will soon as Omaha is bringing them back. I will have to see when the project will be completed as they just broke ground not very long ago.

Amazing murals especially the first one with this message. Thanks for sharing these pics on The StreetArt Community.

Those are amazing arts, really show the love of the artist to their arts. Its good to see this kind of mural outside, it's like they bring color to the whole place and make it more lively.

Yes and they are like a treat to the community. I was on a bike trail taking a picture of one I didn't share. A cyclist stopped and asked if I would take a picture of him near it. So that shows people do admire them.
