We always hear about the evolution of the human race and how far we have come from the very first man. There is a lot of literature about how humans evolved from Dryopithecus all the way to what we have now which is Homo Sapiens. During these stages of human evolution, a lot of things were discovered including man starting to develop useful artefacts from stones and beginning to be upright.
We know of how food was obtained in the past which basically had to do with hunting and in some cases barter trade. We know it was survival of the fittest and to survive you had to be strong and resilient or at least have a very strong father figure to look up to. Men went to war and women remained at home looking after the children. Women have through the years, fought to bring about equality and although that has not been completely achieved everywhere, it is much better than it was before.
The human race made a lot of conscious efforts to change how conflict was resolved which was predominantly through conflicts and war. People fought for territory and others were enslaved. Fortunately, it got to a time where it looked liked the violence had seized. Slavery as we knew it in the past has seized but has there been other improvements? I feel like some of the things that we fought so hard to change have just been modernized and is probably even worse now.
Evolution of humans
We claim we are in a modern era now but our actions do not depict that in my opinion. Look at what is happening in Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Palestine, Congo, Sudan, among others. I understand some of these nations were proved and for some I do not know the history behind the wars and the genocides but then why can we not just sit down and solve our issues through dialogue. Didn't we have enough of the violence in the past?
We're the seventh stage of human evolution which is described as "wise men" but some of our actions like these wars do not show how wise we are. Do we really feel okay when we wake up, pick our phones or turn on the tvs and all we see is people dying as a result of our wicked actions? Innocent people are being killed because some issues cannot be solved in more peaceful ways.
Fighter jets
At least in the past, wars were taken to the battle ground where everyone came with machetes, guns or sticks. Now, someone sits behind a computer screen, presses a key on a keyboard and launches a drone strike that wipes out thousands of humans. Will those before us say we are different from them? We have just found a way to make wars "modern" but we are still killing ourselves.
We have individuals who till date cannot see past a person's skin color, race and religion. After all the awareness that has been created over the years to address these, why are we not behaving any differently? Why dislike someone because their faith is different from yours or the color of their skin is different to yours. How is that the thought of a "modern man" who is supposed to be wiser than those who came before us.
Let's try to live as 1
In a nutshell, humans may have evolved and developed physically and have become more intelligent to make good use of what's around us but I see no progress. We are still killing each other and using violence to resolve matters when we could talk and find compromises. Will the human race ever really get to the point where there is little or no violence? Can we just do good and not think about taking advantage of people?
What do you think about the evolution of the human race? Have we really evolved or are we even worse than before? Share with us by participating in InLeo's calendar prompts. This is my response to day 18 of InLeo's June calendar prompts.
Thank you.
