Since it rained today, this topic came on my mind and l wanted to share it with you today - so l hope you enjoy;)
Why do sailor love the rain?
Life on a boat isn’t always easy. The salt from the sea gets everywhere—on the deck, the rails, the windows, even your skin. It’s gritty, sticky, and just plain annoying. No matter how much you clean, the salt always comes back. Everything feels dry and uncomfortable, like the ocean is teasing you with water you can’t even use.
But then, the rain comes.
It’s like a gift. The rain washes away all the salt and grime, leaving the boat clean and fresh. Suddenly, the deck isn’t sticky anymore, the windows are clear, and even the air feels lighter. It’s a reset button for the boat—and for you.
The rain doesn’t just clean the boat; it changes the whole atmosphere. The air becomes crisp and cool, carrying that refreshing smell of rain mixed with the sea. It’s a break from the dryness, a moment of relief. For sailors, rain isn’t just water—it’s a reminder of why they love being out on the water.
So, while rain might be a hassle on land, for sailors, it’s a blessing. It’s nature’s way of making life at sea a little better, even if just for a little while.
This was always us in the tropics - we would pray for rain especially in those regions where it was hot and sticky, once the rain came also better known as squalls we would stay on the deck and just get drenched by the rain - Ill tell you something, its so magical, then after an hour or more - the sun comes out again.
It doesn't just clean the boat!
It also fills the tanks of the boat with the cleanest water you will ever get, additionally it carries fresh cold air, it is so refreshing after having a whole day sweating. Especially here in Canada, l went outside taking good deep breaths...thats how it reminded me of the days in the tropics...
Thats all for today, but before l go...
