I can't believe it's over 4 years already since my first ever seminar presentation... An occasion that required me teaching my lecturers on a particular subject that was given to me weeks before the seminar day. I can still remember how nervous and very unsure I was of myself before the day, never thought I'd actually get it done and proceed to the next phase in my studies.
Thinking back to that period of time, I've made a lot of progress as I feel I'll do a better job making that presentation than I did back then. But I'm not devaluing the efforts and courage I used up for that phase of life, it was my first ever appearance in front of a crowd and I did it almost perfectly, well not really.
Next! Number 0208, come give your presentation!
How those words sent chills down my spine is quite unforgettable. I stood up and I could feel my legs shaking but my friends as sweet as they always were, made sure to let me know that I had nothing to worry about and I just had to focus on what I've practiced all week. They had positioned a camera to take a memory of my first seminar and I can't thank them enough for that thoughtful action.
Well, here is the crazy aspect of the seminar. The salutation part went all wrong that I got the whole crowd laughing so hard before I began presenting my subject.
As the tradition of students, we salute the lecturers present and the others in the audience but I messed mine up. Why I messed up was that my friends and I have been joking about it, what if we mess up the salutation aspect like we saw on a Tiktok video? I remember we mimicked the video a lot and that got into my head when I finally got to stand in front of the crowd, it was crazy, I tell you!
You can see how uncontrollable the laughter was from that gif above, even the lecturers were laughing while correcting my mistake. Thankfully, that didn't affect my presentation at all as I got a good grade for my seminar when the results came out.
The feeling of relief when I was done with the presentation was so fulfilling, I couldn't contain my joy even though I kinda messed up at the beginning. The sleepless nights trying to figure out how to go about the presentation paid off totally when I saw my grade on it, the experience taught me a lot more than just preparing for it.
Thinking back to those times and seeing how I react in front of crowd today, I see improvements and I'm glad to have found these pictures and videos to remind me that I am growing and there's much room to keep growing.
Of course, the agenda wasn't complete until my friends and I took pictures outside the building to mark our freedom from all the tension that the preparations gave us. These are my friends with me in the pictures, they played a big role in keeping calm for my seminar and we all did same for each other in our own turns.
It was a good experience, whether crazy or fulfilling, I learnt from it and I have it to look back to today.
