On the days following the foundation anniversary of the city, we usually have some other cultural activities related to the history of the state. This time we had another cacao fair. They did this earlier this year but they did not do too much promotion to the event. This time it seems people were aware of the thing and many of them were there buying chocolate and other cacao-bases products.
The other event is Las Noches de Antaño. This is something that sparks as a window to the past of Cumaná. People dress up with old clothes and they fo around in a display of manners of the older times. It is not all about colonial and post-colonial customs. There are some other cultural activities happening while this is going.
All over the colonial streets of downtown, people arrange their stands to offer sweets, trinkets and many other things. Some houses are decorated as businesses of the older times and offer people a glimpse of recreation of the past times.
The only thing I do not like about it is the fact that all the city is gathered at its narrowest streets. It gets difficult to move around. However, the quality of the products and performance makes up for all the noise and crowds. It is an interesting experience. Now I have been in it for two years in a row and can see the charm of such a cultural display of the citizens and government.
