Hello there, hivers!

After not seeing @octocel for two weeks sometime ago, we met to go pick up a package and also have some coffee. We also spent some time at the place where they sell fabrics. Moving from one place to another to get an idea of some things she will buy to fix some things at her place.

When we decided to move away from downtown, I suggested going for ice cream and fries to McDonald's. It had been almost a decade since I set foot inside an establishment of this kind.

And we sat down to have a Mcflurry and fries. The ice cream cup is different now. I think they use the same cups for drinks. Things change. Sometimes these are not for the best.

The idea was also visiting the Marina Plaza mall. This used to be quite popular back in the day. It is a mall located at the shores of the sea. It has an amazing view. It was built near the private docks in the city. The place still holds the only movie theater in town. Many of its signature business have closed for good. It all started with a scandal with a supermarket. And the situation of the country has not made things easier.

However, the view to the sea is still one of the best given by any place in the city. It could see a revival if someone makes a bet and invest some money on the place. It would be great to see the mall come back to life.

Malls are dying in the USA, too. The big "anchor stores" like Sears, JC Penney, and Macy's are either struggling or defunct. Small shops dedicated to fast fashion and clutter were already struggling before Trump's latest tariff push or COVID closures. The North Town Mall in Spokane is not great, the Spokane Valley mall is not what it was 20 years ago, and the Silver Valley Mall in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is only thriving because local sporting goods emporium Black Sheep turned it into a hunting/hiking/fishing/camping destination with departments in formerly vacant store spaces. It's pretty awesome to see pallets of ammunition, racks of sleeping bags, and life jackets galore where once there were scented candles or youth brand clothing.

Damn, and I thought that looking at the spots eaten by the sea breeze was an already bleak image.

Perhaps, but can you imagine going to a former mall where you can now buy a kayak, a life jacket, fishing tackle, a tent, a camp stove, and bear spray plus a revolver in case the bear spray doesn't work?
