Hello, hello, internet people! How are you? For some time now, I've been thinking about doing a food tour, since I'm a chef and therefore passionate about food and the whole foodie world in general. Also, the city where I live, Valencia (in Venezuela), has gradually become one of the country's main gastronomic hubs. I've already done a few reviews, and today it's the turn of Mordisco restaurant, a special place located in the north of Valencia. I think one of the things that makes it even more special is that it's in a green area (literally). It's an area where several restaurants converge in a very ecological zone, where nature predominates: fruit trees, exotic plants, and animals like birds and even fish in ponds. So, everywhere you look, you can find a good spot to take photos.
¡Hola, Hola, gente de internet! ¿Cómo están? Desde hace un tiempo me he estado planteando hacer un tour gastronómico, ya que soy Chef y por ende me apasiona la comida y todo el mundo foodie en general, además, la ciudad donde vivo, Valencia (en Venezuela) se ha convertido poco a poco en una de las principales cunas gastronómicas del país. Ya he hecho algunas reseñas y el día de hoy es el turno del restaurante Mordisco, un lugar especial ubicado en el norte de Valencia, y creo que una de las cosas que lo vuelve más especial es que está en una zona verde (literalmente) es un área en la que convergen varios restaurantes en una zona muy ecológica, donde predomina la naturaleza: árboles frutales, plantas exóticas y animales como aves e incluso peces en estanques, así que en cualquier lugar al que mires puedes hallar un buen punto para hacer fotos.
Outside there are several tables available for those who want a more direct contact with nature; in fact, it is common to see a rooster strolling among the diners as if it were a living decoration, because the truth is that the animal is quite beautiful, with very well-cared-for plumage.
En la parte exterior hay varias meses que tienen disponibles para aquellos que deseen un contacto más directo con la naturaleza, de hecho es común ver un gallo que se pasea entre los comensales como si fuese un adorno vivo, porque la verdad es que es bastante bonito el animal, tiene un plumaje muy bien cuidado.
It's a large restaurant inside and has many spaces such as a pastry area and even a children's area so that parents and guardians can leave their children there peacefully while they enjoy their dishes.
Es un restaurante grande en su interior y cuanta con muchos espacios como area de pastelería e incluso un area infantil para que los padres y tutores puedan dejar a sus hijos tranquilamente allí mientras ellos degustan sus platillos.
The menu didn't seem very complete to me; I feel they still need to add some things (especially to the dessert menu) and the bread and sandwich section. Even so, a bagel caught my eye. I asked the waiter if the bagel dough was soft or if it was made like focaccia, because although there's a set recipe, sometimes the chefs vary it or the procedure at the owners' request. He assured me it was soft, so that's what I ordered.
El menú no me pareció muy completo, siento que aún les falta incorporar algunas cosas (en especial en el menú de postres) y la sección de panes y sandwiches. Aún así me llamó la atención un Baguel, yo le pregunté al mesero si la masa del Baguel era suave o si lo habían hecho tipo focaccia, porque aunque hay un receta establecida, en ocasiones por ordenes de los dueños, los chef suelen variar la receta o el procedimiento. Él me aseguró que era suave, así que esa fue mi orden.
However, when my bagel arrived at the table... it left much to be desired. I mean, the flavor was fine, filled with cream cheese, salami and Tartatra sauce and topped with a sprinkle of black sesame seeds, but the real problem was the texture. The bread was extremely hard, as if it had been sitting out for a while. And as I mentioned, I'm a chef, so I know that often when chefs are doing production, the bosses order more than they should, and instead of clearing out the old ones, they sell them anyway. So I called the waiter back and changed my order.
Sin embargo cuando mi Baguel llegó a la mesa... me dejó mucho que desear. A ver, el sabor estaba bien, rellano con queso crema, salami y salsa tártara, y por fuera una lluvia de sésamo negro, pero el verdadero problema fue la textura, el pan estaba extremadamente duro, como si ya tuviese tiempo de haberse hecho, y como les dije, yo soy chef, así que sé que muchas veces cuando los chef hacen la producción, los jefes mandan a hacer más de lo que deberían y en lugar de sacar de stocks los que ya están viejos, los venden de todos modos, así que llamé al mesero nuevamente y cambié mi orden.
This time I ordered a chiripán, a kind of Argentinian sandwich filled with chorizo and chimichurri sauce. It was delicious; the bread had the perfect texture, the chorizo was well-seasoned, and the chimichurri was exquisite.
En esta ocasión ordené un chiripán, una especie de Sandwich argentino relleno con chorizo y salsa de chimichurri. Este si estaba buenísimo, el pan tenía la textura adecuada para su tipo, el chorizo estaba bien sazonado y el chimichurri exquisito.
On the downside, being a restaurant in the middle of nature makes it difficult to control the flies, which become a real nuisance even when you're not eating outside, because they come inside and bother the diners. Another negative point is that they don't properly train their servers to give customers accurate information. However, despite the incident with the bread and the flies, I would definitely go back. I liked the food, the drink (which I didn't photograph 🤦♀) was a delicious coconut lemonade, and I appreciated how the server handled the situation so well. They changed my order without any extra charges. Plus, it's a beautiful and pleasant place, so I'd give it an 8/10.
Como puntos negativos diría que al ser un restaurant que está en medio de la naturaleza es difícil controlar a las moscas, las cuales se vuelven un verdadero fastidio aún y cuando no estés comiendo en el exterior, porque estas pasan hacia adentro y molestan a los comensales, y el otro punto negativo es que no orientan bien a sus meseros para que den una buena información a los comensales, sin embargo y pesar del incidente del pan y las moscas, yo sí volvería allí, me gustó la comida, la bebida (que por cierto no fotografié 🤦♀) era una limonada de coco deliciosa y me gustó el hecho de que el mesero resolviera el conflicto de la mejor manera posible, me hicieron el cambio de orden y sin recargos, además es un sitio bonito y agradable, así que yo le daría un 8/10.
