In fact, even though my husband was off work this weekend, we didn't do much because going out during the hottest hours is impossible. We’re sleeping poorly and feeling constantly tired; we spent almost the entire weekend lying on the sofa with the AC on and our beloved cats—who were tired too, except for the black cat. As you can see in the photos, she was mesmerized by a relaxing video I’d put on the TV (I have trouble sleeping, so relaxing videos and sleep aids help me) and kept trying to catch a butterfly on the screen—she was so funny. We just ate sandwiches and cold cuts because none of us felt like cooking, but tonight I’ll have to make something; you can’t live on sandwiches, cheese, and cured meats forever—we need some vegetables now and then! Also, since it was Sunday, I took the opportunity to call some friends; like us, they’re all stuck indoors because of the heat and hating this scorching summer. My best friend Madhavi was in despair because she’s booked a beach holiday starting tomorrow and knows she’ll be setting off in sweltering heat—nobody expected a summer this hot.

De hecho, aunque mi marido libró este fin de semana, no hicimos gran cosa, ya que salir durante las horas de más calor resulta imposible. Dormimos mal y nos sentimos constantemente cansados; pasamos casi todo el fin de semana tumbados en el sofá con el aire acondicionado puesto y acompañados de nuestros queridos gatos (que también estaban agotados, salvo la gata negra). Como podéis ver en las fotos, ella estaba fascinada con un vídeo relajante que había puesto en la televisión (me cuesta conciliar el sueño, así que los vídeos relajantes y las ayudas para dormir me vienen bien) e intentaba atrapar una mariposa que aparecía en la pantalla; fue muy graciosa. Nos limitamos a comer sándwiches y embutidos porque a ninguno nos apetecía cocinar, pero esta noche tendré que preparar algo; no se puede vivir eternamente a base de sándwiches, queso y embutidos... ¡de vez en cuando necesitamos algo de verdura! Además, como era domingo, aproveché para llamar a unos amigos; al igual que nosotros, todos están encerrados en casa por el calor y odiando este verano abrasador. Mi mejor amiga, Madhavi, estaba desesperada porque tiene reservadas unas vacaciones en la playa que empiezan mañana y sabe que tendrá que salir de viaje con un calor sofocante; nadie esperaba un verano tan caluroso.
Anyway, despite the heat, we had to brave it and go out by car for about an hour because my husband had run out of e-cigarette flavorings and I was out of tobacco (yes, unfortunately, we both have the bad habit of smoking, and any smoker knows how irritable you get without it). We also needed to do some grocery shopping since our fridge was nearly empty. As you can see from the photo, our car doesn't have air conditioning, so we were sweating profusely. Anyway, after enduring all that heat, we got back home and enjoyed a nice snack of black cherry ice cream—one of my favorite flavors—and then settled down comfortably on the sofa with the AC on to watch TV. I think the only times I’ll get up today are to cook and tidy up! It’s nearly 38 degrees out—far too hot!
En fin, a pesar del calor, tuvimos que armarnos de valor y salir en coche durante una hora aproximadamente, ya que a mi marido se le habían acabado los líquidos para el cigarrillo electrónico y a mí el tabaco (sí, por desgracia ambos tenemos el mal hábito de fumar, y cualquier fumador sabe lo irritable que uno se pone cuando le falta). También necesitábamos hacer la compra, pues la nevera estaba casi vacía. Como se puede ver en la foto, nuestro coche no tiene aire acondicionado, así que sudábamos a mares. Total, que tras aguantar todo ese calor, volvimos a casa y disfrutamos de un rico helado de cereza negra —uno de mis sabores favoritos— para luego acomodarnos en el sofá con el aire acondicionado encendido y ver la televisión. ¡Creo que las únicas veces que me levantaré hoy serán para cocinar y ordenar un poco! Hace casi 38 grados fuera: ¡demasiado calor!
