Cheers #beer community 🍻
Another week, another #beersaturday and I'm tasting another blanche again. As I said in a previous episode, I'm not usually a fan of blanche beers because they tend to have a citrusy taste that I don't like too much. But I'm open minded and want to try different labels to find those that I can actually like to drink.
So I casually found this Blanc from Volfas Engelman on a shelf and why not? Let's try.
Volfas Engelman is a brewery in Lithuania and it's the second largest brewery of the country. They make different types of beer but also other alcoholic beverages, soft drinks and energy drinks.
I thought it was from Belgium but instead is just a Belgian style wheat ale. I have to say I quite liked it. Yes, it's got its typical citrusy taste but it's also moderated by a slightly sweet feeling that makes it really easy and enjoyable to drink. But what I like the most about this kind of beers is that they are really refreshing.
I drank this beer while eating this juicy homemade hamburger with caramelized onions in a very warm day so the pairing was perfect.
About the music, I have this song that's playing in my head all day
I'm not a fan of Bring Me The Horizon but it happens that I'm currently the second hand bassist for an Italian tribute band to BMTH and I have to learn some songs of them. I have some favourites that I really like such as Shadow Moses and Sleepwalking but also Drown is really emotional to me.
The lyrics are deep and melancholic, I share it with you:
What doesn't kill you makes you wish you were dead
Got a hole in my soul growin’ deeper and deeper
And I can’t take
One more moment of this silence, the loneliness is hauntin’ me
And the weight of the world’s gettin’ harder to hold up
It comes in waves, I close my eyes
Hold my breath and let it bury me
I’m not okay and it’s not alright
Won’t you drag the lake and bring me home again?
Who will fix me now? Dive in when I’m down?
Save me from myself, don’t let me drown
Who will make me fight? Drag me out alive?
Save me from myself, don’t let me drown
What doesn’t destroy you leaves you broken instead
You know, when you're forced for some reason to learn a song you usually don't listen to, you start listening to the lyrics, to all the details and nuances in the sound, and every time is an enlightening experience that makes my music knowledge and taste grow and expand, and that's always a good thing to me. I guess I have to listen to this album again and try to capture and treasure the feeling that it's meant to provide to its listeners.
What doesn't destroy you leaves you broken instead.
Cheers to all the broken souls out there
