Here is my contribution to BeerSaturday 429 with a beer produced by Le Trèfle Noir, their NEIPA Brother John. This is the first time I've tasted a creation from this brewery, despite the fact that it began production over 15 years ago and reached 200,000 liters in 2019. I hadn't paid attention before, so this is my chance to catch up 😀.
Voici ma participation au BeerSaturday 429 avec une bière produite par Le Trèfle Noir, leur NEIPA Brother John. C'est la première fois que je goute une création de cette brasserie malgré le fait que sa prodution a commencé il y a plus de 15 ans et atteint 200000 litres en 2019. Je n'avais fait attention, c'est l'occasion de me rattraper 😀.
Here is a map of Quebec where I can show you the exact location of the brewery. Production of Le Trèfle Noir began in Rouyn-Noranda in Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Quebec. However, production has recently been transferred to the premises of Lagabière in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The pub still exists on Principale Avenue in Rouyn-Noranda.
Voici la carte du Québec ou je peux vous montrer précisément la localisation de la brasserie. La production de Le Trèfle Noir a commencé à Rouyn-Noranda en Abitibi-Témiscamingue au Québec. Mais depuis peu, la production a été transférée dans les locaux par Lagabière à Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. Le pub existe toujours sur l’avenue Principale à Rouyn-Noranda.

The brewery Le Trèfle Noir (Black Clover), located in Rouyn-Noranda, was founded in 2009 by Mireille Bournival and Alexandre Groulx. By its 10th anniversary, the brewery had around 20 employees and was producing over 200,000 liters, supplying around 50 bars in Quebec. However, the pandemic in 2020 significantly slowed down business. In 2023, Alexandre Groulx sold the intellectual property to Lagabière, a brewery in Saint-Jean de Richelieu with which he had collaborated extensively. Alexandre still plays an active role in this venture.
La brasserie artisanale Le Trèfle Noir, située à Rouyn-Noranda, a été fondée en 2009 par Mireille Bournival et Alexandre Groulx. Pour leur 10ème anniversaire, la brasserie comptait une vingtaine d'employés et la production dépassait 200,000 litres désservant une cinquantaine de bars au Québec. Mais la pandémie en 2020 a bien ralenti l'activité. Alexandre Groulx, en 2023, a vendu la propriété intellectuelle à Lagabière, brasserie de Saint-Jean de Richelieu avec qu'il avait fait de nombreuses collaborations. Alexandre garde quand même un rôle actif dans cet aventure.
🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :
Brother John is a New England IPA (NEIPA) with 6% alcohol, hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe, and Citra. In the glass, it has a rather pale, cloudy mango color topped with a white head. On the palate, this beer has a very fruity taste, especially tropical fruits such as pineapple with a hint of citrus. Its creamy texture softens the bitterness. A very good beer... I will try other beers from Trèfle Noir in the future.
La Brother John est une New-England IPA (NEIPA) avec 6% d'alcool houblonnée avec du Mosaic, Simcoe et Citra. Dans le verre, on retrouve une couleur de mangue plutôt pâle et troublée surmonté d'un col blanc. En bouche, cette bière a un gout très fruité, surtout des fruits tropicaux comme l'ananas avec une touche d'agrume. Sa texture crémeuse atténue l'amertume. Une très bonne bière... Je vais essayer d'autres bières provenant de Trèfle Noir dans le futur.
Design
The design of this Brother John can is interesting, with its black background highlighting the portrait of this rather unhappy character. For your information, the name comes from Brother Jonathan, the emblem of New England, where this type of beer originates. And the brewer of Trèfle Noir is called John. A perfect nod to tradition.
Le design de cette canette de Brother John est intéressant avec ce fond noir qui fait ressortir le portrait plutôt inquiétant de ce personnage. Pour info, le nom provient de Brother Jonathan, emblème de la Nouvelle-Angleterre d'où provient ce type de bière. Et que le brasseur de Trèfle Noir s'appelle John. Clin d'oeil parfait.
