Here's my entry for BeerSaturday 468 with a German-inspired Pale Lager, the Spund, brewed by Herman. In the summer, I really enjoy this type of beer—refreshing and easy to drink. And this brewery excels at this style. Will this brewery still live up to expectations with this beer?

This is one of my favorite Quebec breweries, especially in the summer. As a reminder, Herman is a craft brewery launched in 2022 in the Laurentians by four friends: Frédéric Pelletier, John Marcel Tremblay, Louis Morin, and Louis-Philippe Beaudoin Morin. They focus on thirst-quenching, light, and approachable beers. Their facilities are ideally located after a day enjoying nature in the beautiful Laurentian region.
C'est une des brasseries québécoises qui j'affectionne beaucoup, surtout en été. Pour rappel, Herman est une brasserie artisanale lancée en 2022 dans les Laurentides par quatre amis Frédéric Pelletier, John Marcel Tremblay, Louis Morin et Louis-Philippe Beaudoin Morin en se concentrant sur les bières de soif, légères et accessibles. Leurs installations sont idéalement placées après une journée à profiter de la nature dans cette belle région des Laurentides.
🍺 Tasting / Dégustation :
The Spund is a German-inspired pale lager, a Kellerbier (also called Zwickelbier) with 5% ABV, hopped with Perle and Hallertau Mittelfruh. Being of German origin, these hops are perfect for this style.
In the glass, it has a fairly light, slightly hazy golden color topped with a beautiful white head. This is characteristic of this style, as it is generally unpasteurized and unfiltered. This isn't indicated on the can, but it seems to be the case.
On the palate, this Bavarian style is very present with fresh and refreshing aromas and a slight floral note. It's perfect for hot summer days, although right now it's raining in Montreal. It's an interesting, very drinkable, and modern beer.
La Spund est une lager pale d'inspiration allemande, une Kellerbier (aussi appelée Zwickelbier) avec 5% d'alcool houblonnée au Perle et Hallertau Mittelfruh. D'origine allemande, ils sont parfaits pour ce style.
Dans le verre, on retrouve une robe dorée assez claire et légèrement troublée surmontée d'une belle mousse blanche. C'est caractéristique de ce style car généralement elle est non pasteurisée et non filtrée. Ce n'est pas indiqué sur la canette mais cela semble être le cas.
En bouche, ce style bavarois est bien présent avec des arômes frais et rafraichissants avec un petit côté floral. C'est parfait pour les chaudes journées d'été bien que pour le moment c'est la pluie qui est présente sur Montréal. C'est une bière intéressante, super buvable et moderne.
Design
As usual with Herman, the design is very elegant, with a focus on lettering that I really appreciate. The Spund and the Kellerbier, each in its own font, are perfect. On the back, you'll find the beer's characteristics, including the type of hops. I love this kind of information... Herman is a reliable brewery for quenching your thirst 😀.
Comme d'habitude avec Herman, le design est très élégant avec un travail sur les lettres que j'apprécié beaucoup. Le Spund et le Kellerbier, chacun dans sa police de caractères, est parfait. Au dos, on retrouve les caractéristiques de cette bière avec même le type de houblons. J'aime ce type d'info... Herman est une brasserie sûre pour se désaltérer 😀.
