Shoe sole repair guide

in DIYHub3 days ago (edited)

Hello

How many of you have never walked down the street on a rainy day and suddenly noticed moisture in the middle of the sole of your foot?

In effect, we take off our shoe and notice that the sole of our shoe is starting to crack inexplicably in the middle of the shoe.

On other occasions, I usually opt to buy other shoes. But on this occasion, because the damage was relatively small, I opted to try a special polyurethane glue specially designed for repairing shoe soles after seeing this product on Amazon, priced at around 10 euros and with a delivery time of 10 hours from purchase.

Allony Sole Filler

The product purchased through Amazon for shoe repair consists of two identical tubes of the product, accompanied by two very useful narrow-tipped nozzles and a small spatula for molding the glue onto the sole.

The spatula, small, has a very ergonomic shape that makes it easy to use, as you will see later on.

The tips adaptable to the glue tube come without an opening, which is very good because everyone can cut the tip to the desired width.

Repair process

  • Cleaning the surface

In order for the glue to stick properly, the most important point is to clean the surface very well with a damp cloth. The removal of dirt is vital so that the glue does not come off the shoe once it has cured.

At the same time, in order for the polymer to find more active spots on the sole to adhere to, in my case I sanded the affected areas with a little sandpaper.

  • Product application

The second step of the sole repair process consists of applying the product.

In my case, to apply the product I used one of the tips, introducing the tip with some pressure on the damaged area with the intention of injecting the product.

A second layer of the product was applied abundantly on the area.

  • Smoothing

In order to prevent the product from being applied in a non-uniform way and protruding from the sole, I used the spatula, allowing me to mold the product very well and remove the product that I had added in excess.

  • Repairing other areas of the shoe

I used the excess of the product that I had initially used following the previous steps in slightly worn areas of the shoe and also in an area where I had stepped on a stone that could be a nearby breakage area.

  • Drying

Once the product was applied, I let the polyurethane glue dry for 24 hours.

The result was satisfactory. And today, on a rainy day, I was able to enjoy my shoes without any mishap, and the product was applied to the applied area without any problem.

Washing the material

Normally, it is a nuisance to clean the tools used that have been in contact with polyurethane glue.

However, we have an inexpensive ally to clean the spatula and the applicator tip: sunflower oil.

A few drops of oil applied on a piece of paper allows us to clean the spatula easily.

For the applicator tip, I decided to soak a piece of kitchen paper in oil and rub the inside of the tip.

As a result, a clean tip to be used with the rest of the product for other shoes or shoes that need to be repaired.

I hope you find this post useful in order to be able to repair your damaged shoes by yourself.

Best regards.

I destroy two pairs of shoes a year.

I'm going to try and see if I can extend their life. Although I always have a couple of new ones in the car in case there are any problems.

Good idea, another shoes in the car!
