Greetings friends, how are you all doing?
Welcome to my blog.
It's mango season here and I've been treating myself to some mangoes. In fact, mangoes have become a staple in my daily diet. Yes, it's been mango everyday for me. Despite the fact that they're in surplus, they don't come so cheap. That not withstanding, I'll enjoy them while they last, because they won't be around for long.
As we know, mango is a well-rounded and nutritious fruit, fully packed with essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Mangoes are excellent source of Vitamin A, C, B6, E, K, etc., including magnesium, iron copper and potassium. Also, mango contains natural sugars, antioxidants, fiber and lots more.
Lastly, mangoes taste just like mango, hehehe. Or rather, the taste is in the eating. 😅
So all this time, I've only enjoyed mango the traditional way, without a thought about juicing or making them into smoothies. I would always say "what's the need of doing all that when they're better off eaten whole?. Hehehe.
However, I often wondered how mango juices, purees or Smoothies would taste. In fact, I even questioned myself if I could actually drink it when I eventually have the opportunity. Lol.
But then, there will always come a time when one would embrace change, move away from their traditional way of doing things and try out new things. You know change is the only constant thing in life.
So over the weekend, I decided to embrace change and make this simple mango drink, at least for a start. Enough of the assumptions, I needed to know how they taste like, and if I would want to have more afterwards. This, I'll tell you after sharing how I made the mango drink.
To make this mango drink, I used
5 sizeable ripe mangoes.
A cup of clean drinking water.
Procedure
First, I washed the mangoes very well to remove dirt.
I then proceeded to cut the fleshy parts off the seeds.
Next I extracted the pulp using a spoon.
It was then time to blend the pulp, and my blender was already waiting to begin the work. 😅
I allowed it to blend for about 3 minutes to get a smooth creamy mixture.
Next, I added the cup of water, and allowed to blend again for about 2 minutes.
And here we are, the mango drink is ready. You can serve with ice cubes or simply allowing it to refrigerate. I opted for refrigeration since I didn't have ice cubes.
Now back to the taste.
Hmmm, all I can say is that the mango drink captured the sweet, tropical flavor and velvety texture of mangoes. So the taste was simply "mangolicious" and I savored it's sweetness and flavor in every sip that I took. 😋
I'm aware that sweeteners like sugar, can be added to the mixture but I didn't see the need to, since mangoes already contain natural sugars. The whole idea was to experience the distinctive flavor of mangoes in its purest form, and I loved it. It was so refreshing.
But I skipped just one step - straining it to remove the fibers. Since I didn't know what to expect from the drink at first, I just decided to prepare it that way. But having seen the outcome - which weren't so smooth, I'll be straining them, going forward.
Who knows, I might also try adding other fruits to the mixture. You know, "variety is the spice of life."
Thank you for reading. I'd love to read your comments and suggestions.
