Delicious, refreshing, and hydrating spiced lemonade [Eng/Esp]

in Amazing Drinks9 days ago

The heat has been stifling in this part of the world, so today, to hydrate myself, there's nothing better than a delicious cold lemonade. It's a drink I love, although this lemonade is a little different; it doesn't just taste like lemon, it also tastes like spices.

I decided to make a mild infusion with cinnamon sticks, cloves, and a touch of ginger, and drink it cold, with all the citrus power of lemon. And to give it extra punch, I blended the lemon pieces. A powerful, hydrating lemonade flavored with spices—a real temptation on hot days. Let's make it 😉

Vamos a prepararla 😉

Ingredients for 2 glasses:

  • 2 small lemons, thoroughly washed.
  • 1 piece of cinnamon stick, about 3 cm long.
  • 1 clove.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ginger.
  • 3 cups of water.
  • 3 tablespoons of sugar.

First, I made an infusion with 3 cups of water, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger. I brought the water to a boil and added the spices, then let it steep over medium heat for 5 minutes with the pot covered.

While the infusion was cooling, I cut off the ends of the lemons and then cut each one into four pieces. I removed the pith, which is the white center part of the inside, as it has a very bitter taste, so removing it will give a more pleasant flavor.

When the infusion had cooled, I removed the cinnamon and cloves, blended it with the lemon pieces for about 10 seconds on low power, paused, and then blended gently for another 10 seconds, as the idea is not to crush the lemons but only to extract their essence. I strained and sweetened it.

In my opinion, it tastes best when served very cold.

The part that hooked me was the quick pulse in the blender to grab the lemon oils without pulling in bitterness, my blender appreciates the short workout. Removing the pith is a smart touch, and those cozy spices with ice sound like a tiny rescue from the heat. Have you tried swapping in honey or adding a splash of sparkling water for a fizzy twist?

It would surely be delicious and much healthier with honey, but honey is expensive, and to sweeten a quantity of lemonade like the one I made, you would need a considerable amount of honey.

A bubbly touch? That sounds great; this is more affordable for me.

You're right, honey adds up fast for a big batch. Try mostly sugar with just a spoon or two of honey for aroma, plus a tiny pinch of salt so it tastes sweeter with less sugar. Top each glass with club soda for that bubbly touch and you’ve got a light spiced lemonade spritz. Panela or brown sugar can also give a cozy flavor on a budget.

Saludos.
