For a year, the death of a famous musician, Mohbad, last year on this exact date (12th September 2023), has been the most controversial one I’ve ever witnessed. Even as of two days ago, the trials concerning his death case were held, and it got the internet buzzing again. As for me, every time I come across such news, I feel sick because why can't they just let the dead rest?
Before you read further, this is a rant
It’s not like I don’t want justice for him because he was allegedly drugged by his friends, but the ongoing discussions surrounding his death have been abnormal and uncalled for. Sometimes, I wish it had happened back when the internet wasn’t as widespread as it is today.
What am I saying?
Take a look at the following:
He had a son with his wife before his death, and the internet is still questioning whether the boy is truly his son due to allegations about his wife’s infidelity while Mohbad was still alive. I can’t count how many times this issue has been dragged online, but how can it be proven? There’s actually no way, as DNA testing can’t be conducted on a buried corpse to determine if it matches the boy. And even if the boy isn’t his, what then? Can’t they allow the boy to live peacefully and let the family move on with their lives? The internet can be so exhausting at times.
Then there’s the father of the deceased, who decided to pursue a music career to “replace” his son. This is perhaps the most laughable part of the online drama because why on earth would a man in his 50s decide to join the music industry to replace or mourn his son? When I saw this news on a blog, I almost blocked the blog from appearing on my timeline. At that point, I realized that everything they were doing seemed like nothing more than clout-chasing. The family really seized the opportunity to trend online 24/7. It’s just sad.
But enough of that—let me share with you the most amazing tribute made in memory of Mohbad. It’s a song in which he was featured before his death. Yes, the song (audio) was released before he passed away, but unfortunately, he left this world before the video could be shot.

Chike, the owner of the song, eventually created the video, and everything about it was dedicated to Mohbad. Many tribute songs have been released in his honor, but this particular one stands out.
Today, on the first anniversary of his passing, listening to and watching the video of this song brings back a lot of memories of him.
I really wish he could be allowed to rest in peace, and that the endless controversies would fade away. I know it’s unlikely, especially with the way social media works, and considering that his family has now become famous and seems to be using the opportunity to grow their online presence. Still, I can’t help but wish for a little more peace in the way his memory is treated.
