We have all dreamt about the ideal way we want our life to be. We all want a very comfortable and prosperous life. Right? A life where we have just a few things to worry about because a large portion of our worries have been sorted out. This is the ideal kind of life for many people but is the path to attaining this life an easy one?
A song by Burna boy recently sent me into a mini trance. I love listening closely to song lyrics and actually picking out the vital information from these lyrics and if need be, I relate them to our everyday life.
The song "Bank On It" is one of Burna boy's finests pieces and this song reflects mainly on three topics; wealth, trust and paranoia. We have all had our various encounters with at least one, if not all of these topics. However, I would be dealing briefly on each of them.
Wealth
The reason why many of us make plans, wake up everyday and try to achieve these plans is because we want to attain a level of wealth. I put it to you that many people would be lazybones if we all came to this world with our own wealth. Imagine being born with millions of dollars that can sustain you till you translate from earth?
In order to live a somewhat comfortable life we need to be wealthy and when I say wealthy, I am not only talking about monetary wealth. Wealth encompasses assets, investment, liabilities and even human relationships.
One thing about wealth is that it comes with great responsibility. As humans, it is an auto response to want to be like others who have actually attained this degree of wealth. Some people work painstakingly to reach this level, while others do nothing but get jealous and jealousy is documented as one of the most dangerous emotions. This is where paranoia comes in.
It is only normal to have people who are jealous about certain things you possess and in such cases, what we ought to do is be very careful. Watch your steps and think every single decision through.
Trust.
Vulnerability is good to a certain degree but too much of it only means trouble.I remember how easily I used to trust people as a kid. If you told me pigs could fly, I would believe it wholeheartedly until I became aware. As we grow older, it gets harder to trust people and sometimes we do not even trust ourselves. This is a result of the terrible encounters people have had with those they trusted.
As such we have to adopt a sense of caution and awareness of potential danger. This doesn't mean we should go around pointing fingers and saying that people are not trustworthy. We should just be extremely cautious. Like my mom always says, do not put all your hopes on someone as they may disappoint you. Just hope you don't get disappointed but at the same time, be ready for any form of disappointment whatsoever.
Nonetheless, on our journey to attain the comfortable life we so crave, we shouldn't fail to acknowledge the fact that the path to success isn't always a smooth one. We should recognize and accept our mistakes and shortcomings as they are part of who we truly are.
Along the line we shouldn't forget to show gratitude as the life we live is someone else's prayer point and it may have been your prayer point a few years back. Be smart, be cautious, be sparingly vulnerable, be grateful and above all stand 'pon anything you say.
Love, Wongi 🤍
