So it's been over a week since my last cycle ride. Too long!
Before spring comes, I need to be fitter to cope with the challenges of the longer rides when the forest tracks dry up enough. We have had so many days of wet weather 😫. Today was dry but very cold.
I took almost the same route as last week but taking new pictures along the route, obviously! This route is a good regular ride in summer or winter as there are many options, depending upon conditions. Today, I kept mainly to minor roads and gravel tracks. There were some softer paths when there was no other option, but I covered about 18 miles.
St. Leonards forest is a large area of prime forest, which has a good hard gravel track which bisects the whole area from one end to the other. A good three miles or so.
I stopped for a drink and a snack, then spotted a huge old oak tree. It must be so ancient! It looks like it won't last much longer but I hope it does!
I kept up the pace today where i could, especially when on tarmac roads. I like to get back onto the gravel or forest single track paths as soon as possible. I was filthy again, and so was my bike! 🤣.
Back in Buchan Park, towards the end of the ride, I noticed a small tree with unusual blossom. I think it is probably katkins. Yellow filaments, like ribbons.
The main picture shows the same tree with Buchan Lake in the background.
I was pleased with my progress, and the stats for the ride show that the ride was productive, fitness wise, so I'm on target for hitting optimal levels in time for spring. 😁
