In order to quit a bad habit you need to swap it with another activity
I was very obsessed w youtube 24/7
I swapped it with reading nonfiction books. I was not into reading/in a slump.
I started reading aloud slowly etc and eventually started to enjoy it
Now I always read something.
Along w that have some sort of a priority list
Like top 3 tasks for today that you want to do
Even if you dont do them
Just helps to know whats the priority for today
And I also try to not use shoulds. I should do this. I just say it would be preferable if I get it done today but it is not a should
I chose nonfiction because it is easier to put down than fiction. Fiction also makes me feel like an emotional rollercoaster ride depending on what it is. Overtime I realized I prefer nonfiction over fiction for daily reading habit
Also the books I chose I make sure it is not self help y because it can make my brain feel buzz y
I pick books very relevant to my immediate challenges
Such as to get some sort of mental support w my diet, I read Case Against Sugar, and other Gary Taubes books etc
So pick something easily accessible and put effort the first week and hopefully it will get easier
And you just have to keep trying
It is an on and off journey till finally you find a balance.
