A Shortcuts Shortcut

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to talk about how some companies are taking way too many fucking short cuts!

A Shortcuts Shortcut

Are we at the point where people are incredibly lazy?

IMG_1260.jpeg

I've been one of those people who likes to try and do things in a good way, where I don't cut every corner but I will cut some. There are some corners I refuse to cut though and this is one of them!

Microwaves.. are they the wonder invention of the 20th century? Some may certainly think so! For me however.. those things are fucking horrible LOL.

Microwaves are an insidious gadget because they use radiation to heat things up.. something that is not necessarily a thought most people have. You put a glass bowl in there with some water, pop it on and the water is hot. How did it do that? It blasted the water, and bowl, with insane amounts of microwave radiation.. so your food can be hot in 45 seconds instead of 5 minutes? That's a pretty wild corner cutter for me.

Heating up water is one thing, but when people heat up food in that damn thing it drives me nuts. We have food that is incredibly poor in nutritious content, and you then put that poor food in a microwave where it is splitting proteins, destroying vitamins and making the food almost entirely devoid of nutritional benefit. Sure it may have "calories" still, but it is devoid of what it was supposed to help you with.

I say this because I had a recipe a few weeks ago when we got those Hello Fresh or whatever the home delivery meal-kit things are, and in the instructions it did not say how to heat up one of the items, I think it was potatoes. They said pop those fuckers in the microwave for 45 seconds on high and you're good! Please ignore the fact that they are in a plastic bag, in the microwave. You are slamming the nutritional value with microwave bombs, then on top of that also leeching the fuck out of it with plastic and the insane amount of chemicals associated with that.. I may seem a bit of an extremist here.. but a lot of people in my life I've known are suffering from dog shit health because of their food choices, and many of those food choices are like this crap.

Cooking instructions used to include a few different options. You could throw those potatoes in a pot with some water to blanch them or whatever they call it, or you could pop them in the microwave. Hell you could also even sous-vide the fucks! There's a dozen ways to skin the cat so to speak, but it really annoyed me that they didn't include any of the NORMAL ways to cook things. They only included the fuck-up-your-health way.

Thankfully I figured out a way to get what I needed done; I just put a cooking skillet with a decent amount of water and put those bitches on high. I rotated them a number of times for like 10 or 15 minutes and they got boiled to the intended softness in the recipe. Take that you lazy fucks at Hello Fresh! LOL

This type of stuff really bothers me because we are already at an abysmal state of health as a country. Then we only include these further health-detrimental short cuts as a standard practice and we are going to fuck ourselves up two ways from Sunday if that is what we are doing constantly. Damn it people need to smarten up!

What about you, have you noticed that there are lazy ways out taken for some of the things like cooking? Do you find it problematic or do you think that my perspective is too extreme? Let me know in the comments!

Very relatable! I think ever since I've learnt of the radiation that a microwave uses to heat up dishes, I've stopped using it entirely. What pisses me off the most is seeing people using it as a default strategy to heat up any meal they want to heated up, even when a far better strategy is just using a gas or letting the food stay outside for awhile away from the fridge!

That's good! We need to fix a lot of things in our lives and the biggest one is the food we eat! Preparing it the right way is important for sure! I'm glad you are on the same path :D

Yes, it makes no sense to further depreciate the nutrients on the food we're making when the nutrients are already quite deprecated.

Well if people don't get sick, how can they owe medical debts? So medical debts are also part of government funds, especially for public hospital, so things like radiation wouldn't be sounded as a alarm and all that.
It seems extremely crazy to want my food to be cooked in 45 seconds when I can actually sit still and watch it cook the regular way.

Hahah yeah man, it's wild for sure. There's something important to be said about slowing down just a little bit when it comes to cooking food!

The medical debt stuff is wild.. it's so prevalent in the world it's crazy!

In Nigeria they don't give you the medical attention you need unless you pay them immediately and outrightly. It's why many medical emergencies die over here, so when a person is dead, they can't owe.

I think the motivation behind this "laziness" is because we are looking to squeeze out more time or maximise our time. Personally, I have tried to reduce the frequency of some of the stuff that I do, e.g. I used to update my personal finance spreadsheets weekly but I have reduced to monthly or even quarterly, some stuff that I used to tidy around the house weekly have been reduced to fortnightly or monthly. After a while, we adapt to the new frequencies and there's more time to do something new.

Yeah.i agree with you
I don't think it encourages "laziness"
They are all put in place to save time so we could do other productive things with our time.
I feel it should be tagged "laziness" for those that don't have anything to do with there productive time
Them "couch potatoes"

Ahh this part is true, I agree!

Yeah for sure it's a big time thing. I think that an important thing to think about when it comes to time, is cutting corners in terms of time now, which you will end up paying back at a heavy cost in the future.

Sadly most people don't see it that way!
