A lazy day it was for me on Thursday. I did not do much work, and I was not even ready to do more, even when I had a lot of work at hand. I allowed procrastination to have its way a little, especially with the fact that what I needed to do was not so important. Even coming up with something to write was difficult; that is why I decided to utilize the Rant community to write about what I saw in my neighbor’s compound today.

So today, we saw the staff of the electricity company carrying ladders from house to house, disconnecting the wires of those households that were yet to pay their electricity bills. For those who were ready to pay on the spot, they would collect the money and issue a receipt.
I did not know they were around until we heard a loud, abusive exchange coming from a neighboring compound. I got there to witness an almost physical fight between the occupants of the house (tenants, not the landlord) and the staff of the electricity company, exchanging harsh words. In situations like that, one does not need to ask questions before knowing the root cause of the quarrel. It is usually because the household has refused to pay the electricity bill and is also resisting disconnection, which is due to the poor electricity distribution in the town.
We joined the occupants of the compound in raining insults on the staff because we do not usually get electricity, and whenever we do, sometimes up to three days, that is when the staff will distribute bills and go ahead to disconnect the light for defaulters who are yet to pay.
I joined in pouring insults on the staff, but meanwhile, my compound had already paid. Lol.
After much dragging, they eventually disconnected the light. Now, they will have to live like that for a while until they decide to pay the bill and get it reconnected. Not that they would feel it much anyway since electricity rarely comes.
Thank You!
