Today's Hostel Meal Life Over Roti and Sabzi in a Pakistani Hostel

It was evening when I stepped out of my room and headed to the mess. This is a regular hostel here in Pakistan nothing fancy just a place where a bunch of us stay while trying to build something for ourselves. Stomach was already growling and the same old question was on my mind "what's on the menu today?" That question comes up every single day in hostel life. Sometimes the answer's good, sometimes you just make do.
Today's spread was pretty basic two warm rotis a small bowl of vegetable curry mixed with yogurt and a few sliced green chilies thrown on top. The plate sat on a steel table, rotis came in that red woven basket and I went through the usual routine tearing off a piece of roti dipping it in the curry eating slowly.
Honestly, hostel food never tastes like a restaurant meal, and it definitely doesn't match home cooking. But there's something to it - when your stomach's full and you're already thinking about tomorrow's work, even a plain curry like this feels like a blessing. The chilies were a bit sharp today, had to reach for water two or three times.
This table, this plate, this same meal day after day - that's what hostel life really is, especially for someone living away from home in a city like this. No complaints, no big statements, just a simple truth - whatever we're earning, whatever we're learning, it's all built on these small, ordinary moments. Tomorrow will bring a new day, new work, and maybe a different meal too.
