I keep popping by!

in #life3 days ago

I say it every few months but I keep meaning to get on here and be active but my gosh, this are a little hectic!

Work has been bonkers crazy. In addition I'm trying to find another 30 hours a week to do degree work. Then there's life! The degree is jolly enjoyable though! Might get to use my first work based script in production this week! It's a simple affair to process some files so they have unique names. By some there's about 20,000 of them and if somebody sat down to do it full time it'd take approximately 2 weeks. That excludes typing errors etc. I'll admit, I feel a little smug about it regardless of how simple it is!

Beyond that not much has been going on. The usual routine of trying to get to the gym at lunch but often failing due to getting caught up in work stuff.

The weather is however getting better and although a little chilly, it has been lovely recently. So much so that I've been taking Lola to the beach when I can. I still have to be careful due to her dodgy leg, but she's doing so much better.

A few photos from yesterday - you can see by the Lola's face (she desperately needs a groom), that it was a little windy from the east!

A few more from last Saturday...

...and the Saturday before that.

As per usual, the other thing that has been going on is the occasional foody adventure. I took the 12 year old to the butchers on Saturday so she could pick what she fancied for the week. Won't be doing that again! Bloomin' expensive taste it seems. Saying that, we're eating less meat these days, but we do try to buy local and hopefully "happy animals" when we do beyond supermarket, mass produced.

She also ran off when I cooked the steak.

A recent balancing act with her "alt pizza" alternative. It looks terrible but is delicious!

Instead of pizza dough it's a naan bread. No tomato sauce but hummus, topped with roasted mediterranean veggies and tzatziki.

I need to do more walking to deal with the food!

Until next time.

Won't be doing that again!

Haha! Steak looked good, though!

Love to see your photographs as always and doesn't the sun make a difference? Also great to see Lola out and about again.

File naming sounds good - how does it work for 20,000 files? 😁

It's certainly lovely now the mornings are lighter. This year better suits my body clock as I often wake up around 04:30 and rarely get off again.

I'm well chuffed with the file naming thing. It's for safety certificates (Gas, Electrical etc). All the files are currently stored in folders containing the year they relate to, but they all have the same filename. That is the fire safety certificate for property x has the same name in each of the year folders.

I've put together a Python script that goes through each bit of the file structure, takes the year from the year folder, and appends to the filename to make them unique.

Wizardry!

Wow, the file naming script sounds amazing! I hadn't thought about the commercial applications.

I've missed your beach and food pics. The pizza looks nice to me. I'm not done one on a naan, but I like the sound of it.

Enjoy the nice weather. I just saw Look East and they said it may get cooler and wetter now. Should be warmer at night though. That's good as we have a guy putting in some fence posts and concrete doesn't like frost.
