I've read all 47 of the Poirot books, and a fair few of the Marple and independent standalone ones, too. Suffice to say, I've always been an avid Agatha Christie reader. I absolutely adore Poirot. His love for dramatics, his method of investigation, the fact that he often is more devoted to the cases being morally and psychologically wrapped up than enforcing the actual law, the list goes on. I just really enjoy the way this character has been brought to life.
On a side note, I also believe that David Suchet is 100% the perfect embodiment of Poirot. For anyone who hasn't seen BBC's adaptation of Agatha Christie's Poirot, please go treat yourselves, it's impeccable! It feels as though he literally stepped out of the pages of the books. Hand on heart, the best book-to-television adaption I've ever come across!
I love trying to work out the mysteries as I read, even though I don't always get it right. I still enjoy the process, of being immersed in the book. I think Agatha Christie does a good job of keeping us on our toes, in general, with Poirot. Controversial take here: but this is why I never much enjoyed Marple. The solutions to her cases depend, too often, on a random piece of information that's thrown in right at the end. It takes away some of the fun for me, if I know there's no way I'll be able to piece together who the killer is, from the clues laid out in the initial chapters. Admittedly, this is not the case with all of the Jane Marple books, but it has happened a fair few times, and it really put me off from reading more of them.
