Well, it's Saturday so let's get us some #beer to chew on.
Tonight I'm enjoying some Brrr from Widmer Brothers, a Portland staple since 1984.
If you like beer and beer lore than I highly recommend you read this short history of Widmer.
Now, I'm not a fan of Hefeweizen but I am proud of Widmer for inventing (and perfecting) the American-style Hefeweizen.
It happened like this: in 1986, after a couple years of brewing two beers, an altbier (old beer) and a weizenbier (filtered wheat beer) and selling kegs to a local pub, the pub asked for a third style of beer. The brothers did not have the money for a third fermentation tank so, in a stroke of brilliant luck, they decided to leave their weizenbier unfiltered. So they put it straight into kegs and shipped it out. In that moment the unfiltered American-style hefe was born. Amazing.
Anyhow, wheat beer tastes like shit to me so tonight I'm enjoying the perfect snowed-in-all-week beer called Brrr.
It's a red ale, a style I like quite a bit.
With the way big corporations buy up successful craft breweries I am pleasantly surprised that these guys have not sold out. I wouldn't blame them if they did, I mean, can you imagine the offers they must have received over the years!?
It's been snowy af here and I've not been to work since Monday due to all the snow and ice . It's been a (mostly) awesome time just doing shit around the house (and also not doing a damn thing for hours on end).
We did get out for a walk today. The temp has been too cold for Mr Murphy and his tender little paws. We tried a couple times but after three houses he was walking with an odd limp and it was just so cute. I did carry him home and it was precious 😍
I also was able to #craft a top quality meal with some lunchmeat and a can of #nuts.
